Perennial herb 15-50 cm tall, with short many-headed rootstock leaves pinnate, pubescent surrounding hairs on the stem (winged axis) between the main culm leaf segments are small wedges or teeth, so the list seems to be broken-pinnate. Baskets are collected in a common apical corymbose inflorescence. Marginal flowers in a basket lozhnoyazychkovye, white, median – tubular. Fruit – achene. Blooms from June to September, the fruits ripen from July. Europe and North species spread in the European part of Russia, Western Siberia and the Caucasus. In Central Russia is found in all areas, and in the black earth belt usually in Nechernozemie occasionally.
It grows in the steppes, dry meadows, thickets, roadside meadows, waste, sand, limestone, on railway embankments.
In the black earth belt in the steppes and dry meadows (to the north as an introduction, along railways) occasionally occurs – few-flowered yarrow, which has yellow flowers lozhnoyazychkovye, single intermediate lobes on the leaves, loose total inflorescence with numerous baskets sitting on legs 2-6 mm long , pubescent plant adjacent hairs.
