Annual height and 90 cm stem is straight, branched. Leaves alternate (except the bottom), petiolate, entire or toothed, of unequal-shaped or hastate hanging down, and usually oriented edge-on to the middle part of the stem, to lanceolate, obliquely upwards towards the top of the branches and plants. All the leaves are green on both sides of one color. Flowers in dense spike inflorescence. Pistillate flowers are wrapped in rhombic or ovate-rhombic bracteoles, mostly lanceolate, acute, usually with a few teeth. Blooms from July to September, fruiting in August.
Common in Europe, except in the far north, North Africa, the Caucasus, and Central Asia Minor, North America. In Russia grows almost throughout the European part of the North Caucasus, and Siberia. In Central Russia is common in all areas.
Rising on the roads, vacant lots, weeds bush, rivers, as a weed in gardens and fields. In crops occurs as a specialized form of low stem (not more than 10 cm) and open branches up to 40 cm long, which are not captured when mowing machine.
Propagated by seeds, one plant can produce up to 6 LLC seeds.
Eaten by all kinds of farm animals, especially camels.
