Perennial herb 15-50 cm tall, covered with short bifid and simple hairs, resistant rootstock. Stem erect or ascending at the base, simple or with a few branches at the top, abundant foliage. The leaves are alternate, ovate or rounded, twice pinnate into linear segments, with petioles. Baskets are large, located at the tips of stems and branches. Marginal flowers ligulate, white, pink or pinkish-purple; median — tubular, yellow. Fruit-achenes 1.8-2.5 mm in length and a width of about 0.5 mm. Blooms from July to September, the fruits ripen in August-October.
Europe and North view. In Russia, widespread in the southern half of the European part, Siberia and the Far East. In Central Russia is rare, but in Lipetsk and Kursk regions.
It grows on limestone outcrops and scree slopes.
Polymorphic species, having within its range separated populations differing flower color and shape of the leaves.
Ornamental plant, grown in flower beds.
