Semishrubs height 8-15 cm with thickish stem, ending buds, and short creeping sterile shoots, flowering shoots under inflorescence covered with short appressed hairs, down direction. The leaves are thick, hard, with very prominent veins on the lower side, linear, 8-15 mm long and 0.7-2.5 mm wide, sessile, dotted with glands and cilia on the edge of the base to the middle of the plate. In the axils of stem leaves are usually well-developed axillary tufts of leaves. Flowers in capitate compact inflorescences. Calyx purplish, uzkokolokolchataya, 3.5-4 mm long, bilabiate, with three small teeth ostrotreugolnymi with filmy edge of the upper lip and two narrow sharp sickle curved teeth of the lower lip. Corolla bright pink, rarely white, up to 7 mm, with a short tube. Blooms from May to August, the fruits ripen from iyunya.Vostochnoevropeysky look. In Russia, many in the southern half of the European part, in the Northern Caucasia and Dagestan. In Central Russia is found in the black earth belt.
It grows mostly on the river sands.
Used in folk medicine.
At the outputs of chalk and limestone in Lipetsk, Kursk and Voronezh regions occasionally meets Thymus calcareus Klok. et Shost. (Incl. T. cretaceus Klok. Et Shost.) — Thyme limestone, which do not develop axillary leaves and stem leaves are smaller and more rigid.
