Test 4. Test — tapping an ax blade to fold
The test is well known and any additional explanations are not needed. Just take and just knock. One condition — knock hard, not pitied.
Benchmade 551 Griptilian — The knife did not work, although the test it personally Loupian with full force — well, I like this knife, I can not help myself. The result — a solid 5-minute.
Spyderco Endura 4 — Test passed — the knife did not work out. The result — 5 points.
Byrd CaraCara FRN — The knife did not work out. There was a light additional clearance. The result — 4 points.
Byrd Cara Cara G-10 — The test was held on 5 points.
Byrd Raven, Plain Edge — Did not happen, but a small gap inherent back-lokam increased. The result — 4 points.
Benchmade Ambush 10200 — did not work out, but after the test, began to noticeably play. The result — 3 points.
Benchmade Pika II PE — There was a second blow, and then began to take shape just from the little effort. The result — 0 points.
Ontario Heat — The biggest disappointment. Formed after the second shot, but cleverly formed — immediately otpruzhinil in place due to the construction of the castle. Do not believe their eyes — have decided to spend a few more attempts. Knife regularly formed after each stroke. Losing vigilance we digress — and here's the result, fold the knife once again ripped 2 tester gloves (leather one, the second — from a synthetic reinforced with metal threads) and cut his hand. The wound was deep, but was bleeding profusely — so it took medical intervention.
Test 5. Resists soil pick the lock.
This test we split into two parts. In the first, we have experienced in the ordinary sand castles with a small amount of land that completely simulates the ordinary dry dirt in the streets. The second test is more tricky — in the above mixture is added molasses (sweet sticky fluid) — get real hellish mixture threatens to break into any slot of the lock. Particular attention in this test was given to the castle Axis-lock. For some reason many stab Conference believes that it is this type of lock is most susceptible to pollution.
So, the first in a bucket put all knives, covered them with earth and sand as it should still agitated. Then he fetched a knife and gently cleanses the tapping. Here are the results of the first part of the test.
Benchmade Pika II PE — Castle, after the "dry" bath, finally ceased to fix the blade. Knife folds and unfolds completely free, no hint of fixation was not. After more seriznoy cleaning castle started fire and put the blade on the pin. However, a mild tapping knife with blade still easily formed. The result — 1 point.
Benchmade Ambush 10200 — This knife is easy to dirty, but just as easy and clean. At the beginning of the castle refused to fix blade, but then, after a few cycles of "open — close" lock "cheered up" and started to work normally. Serious cleaning to restore the functions of the castle was not required. However, small grains of sand for a long time creaked in the lock, even after rinsing under water. The result — 4 points.
Byrd Raven, Plain Edge — Easily transfer pollution, due to the open design "Laner-lock" is easily cleaned and is as easy emerged after the second strike. It is obvious that the contact area of the lock plate and tail blade is small and therefore very sensitive to even small alien particles that fall between them. The result — 2 points.
Ontario Heat — after contamination and easy cleaning (tapping on the edges of a bucket) — the castle ceased to function, and hid the blade locks tightly. Tapping butt situation has not changed. After a more serious cleaning castle regained its function and even started off well fixed the blade. However, several blows butt back to square one all-knife again began to take shape, as was noted in previous tests. The result of the test score of 3.
Spyderco Endura 4 — Knife test was wonderful. After contamination lock quickly and without any consequences restored its function. The result — 5 points.
Benchmade 551 Griptilian — Just not a knife, and some kind of miracle. Castle did not respond to the dry dirt. It did not even have special tapping on board a bucket. As a solid, fixed blade — and fixes. And it does not add up. A total of 5 points.
Byrd Cara Cara G-10 — The knife continues to be honest middling. Castle reliable and gryazeustoychev: dirty, easily cleaned and locks. The result — 5 points.
Byrd CaraCara FRN — Similarly with his fellow G-10. Test confidently passed. The result — 5 points.
In the second part of the test, we added a sand-soil mixture more sugar syrup. Thrown into it all the knives, agitated, stirred and here's the result (at least dostavaniya knives from a bucket).
Ontario Heat — even with a dirty castle continued to steadily emerge when tapped the butt of a piece of wood. The "quick release" of course immediately denied. No serious cleaning function to restore the castle was impossible. But honestly tried to fix the lock blade. The result — 2 points.
Benchmade Ambush 10200 — All the dirt quickly scored lock and open part of the handle, the blade when it is locked tightly. Knife and failed again to become "skladnikom." To restore the functions of the castle took a full flush of the knife. The result — 1 point.
Benchmade Pika II PE — The test is not passed. Castle fell into complete disrepair. Blade design for the "back-lock" to the end, does not go into the handle, as there huddled dirt. In this case, the knife continues to take shape even with light tapping. The result — 0 points.
Spyderco Endura 4 — At the beginning of the castle ceased to fix the blade and it seemed that the knife will come out of the test with a "test failed." However, after a few blows with handle lock cleaned and became functional. When folded, the knife is not fully formed, it is quite natural after a mud bath. For the will to victory is awarded 3 points.
Benchmade 551 Griptilian — At the beginning of the knife is completely blocked. Pin the castle was simply not budge, and I thought that I finally found a justice on the knife. But no. A few strokes butt — and the castle is cleaned quickly. The knife starts to function normally again, though slightly creaking. It is clear that until the end of the blade and the handle does not go in, but to eliminate this defect out of this half a minute — and you have a reliable back, ready to use a knife. The result — 4.5 points.
Byrd Cara Cara G-10 — Castle of the test was perfectly well, but that's in the groove for the blade, between the dies, nabilas dirt that there will be very difficult to clean. And crammed a lot more than others. And wash this "gap" is possible only under a strong stream of water — by nature a clean knife will be very difficult. The result — 4 points.
Byrd CaraCara FRN — Thanks to a wider groove knife is much easier to clean than the Cara Cara G-10. The castle passed the test, as well as perfect and total score — 4.5.
Byrd Raven — After a mud bath castle is completely jammed. The knife is not formed under any bumps butt, on the one hand probably good. But with druoy side lock did not work — what is wrong. The result — 1 point.
The overall conclusion is: the most dangerous type of pollution for locks "liner-lock, especially if the liner lock is thin and therefore a small area of contact with the heel of the blade. Castles of the "back-lok" generally reliable, but because of the construction of the castle to clean this knife will be harder to others. Knife with "Axis-Locke" proved very reliable and Resists soil pick. How many after these executions have enough resource in the lock springs — we'll see, but overall impression is very favorable. Castle Rolling Lock at Benchmade Ambush does not show special, but the fact that he is worse than the "Axis" — that's for sure.
Test number 6. Batoning
Under batoningom meant shelling or splitting Poleshko knife, which is applied to the Obukhov extra effort. Put simply — we take the log, puts a knife and knock the other a log — until otluschim splinter, or break the knife. Something like this.
Ontario Heat — prshel test is normal — a total of 4 points. The handle is a bit short, that batoninga not very convenient.
Benchmade Ambush 10200 — Knife test passed, but there were additional, very tangible backlash — 4 points.
Benchmade Pika II PE — thin blade gets stuck in the tree, to have to drive further splinter that would remove a stuck the knife. If the lock is not dead in the previous tests — he'd be dead now. Communities result — 2 points (awarded posthumously).
Spyderco Endura 4 — Gets stuck in a tree, but overall not bad. The result — 3 points.
Benchmade 551 Griptilian — test was 5. And in the course of the test impact comes not only in the blade but also sometimes in the castle area (for balance), the castle endured flogging without consequences.
Byrd Cara Cara G-10 — Knife suffered flogging without visible effects, a thick flake of wood chips from logs. A total of -5 points.
Byrd CaraCara FRN — batoninge in the knife closer to the Endura, than to his fellow Cara Cara G-10. It's a pity the handle — it seems fragile, but as we have seen, during batoninga Sometimes you have to knock on the knife handle, especially if the spill turns out too thick. A total of 4 points.
Byrd Raven — Minus the knife in one, short blade, so the splinter will be very much narrower, lighter branches mangled. The result — 3 points.
The table now looks like this score.

Pollution "in syrup"

Test number 7. Planing nails
Before this test, all the knives were reground and confidently cut the paper on the weight. Unfortunately, it turned out that this and subsequent tests we were not able to gather all the knives together. So some of them are still awaiting their fate. Out on test Benchmade Pika II PE, Spyderco Endura 4, Byrd CaraCara FRN and Byrd Raven
Byrd Cara Cara G-10 — Knife nail Whittle reluctantly, trying to slip off, and generally get out of this work. At the level of the cutting edge (the RK) — there vyscherbleny and small burrs. The result — 3 points.
Benchmade 551 Griptilian — Knife confidently removes chips from the nail. At RK no significant changes are not visible. Paper Planes after the test — but bad. The result — a score of 4.5.
Benchmade Ambush 10200 — Good knife removes chips, literally biting into a nail. Paper cuts are not so readily as before the test. The result — 4.5 points
Ontario Heat — By cutting ability, perhaps it is the best knife on the test. Whittle nail well, takes a long thick chips. There are some minor damage to the Republic of Kazakhstan. Paper cuts practically the same as before the test. The result — 5 points.
Test number 8. Cutting of nails
Well — it is natural that after planing and nails it comes to their cabin. Who could doubt it? This is a serious test for the destruction of the knife, and we took it very seriously. The test consisted of three stages, or rather shock: Easy, medium and strong — for chopping. In addition, we used two different bases for cabin (a kind of scaffold for the nails) — a piece of wood and iron plate.
Benchmade 551 Griptilian
1st shot on the board, the impact is weak. Dent in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the nail nadrublen.
2nd shot on the board, kick average. Strong Zamyatin at RK
Third shot on the iron, blow average. Chipped nail 2/3, but a piece of the Republic of Kazakhstan is in the nail. Perhaps this is a consequence of a lateral load.
4th shot on iron, blow strong. RK — hesitated, but did not crumble — nail severed.
Total score — a knife behaved with dignity. Nails with chopped glossing over Kazakhstan. Chalking of the Republic of Kazakhstan considers the actions of the lateral side of the random load, in the future, this defect is not repeated. The result — 4 points.
Byrd Cara Cara G-10
1st shot on the board, the impact is weak. Nadrublen nail on RK Zamyatin.
2nd shot on the iron, blow average. Nail is severed at RK great cleavage.
Grand total — expected more from a "national" knife. 2 points.
Benchmade Ambush 10200
1st shot on the board, kick average. RK is called the "floated", became flaky. The impression that this is the result again — random side loads.
2nd shot on the board, kick average. Repeat the previous attempt. At RK — weak Zamyatin.
Third shot on the board, kick average. At the RK was a small Zamyatin. The nail in half.
Grand total — with dignity, no chipping, like the Flu, even on random side loads — 4.5 points.
1st shot on iron, blow average. At RK — strong Zamyatin, steel does not crumble, and peeled back. Nadrublen nail slightly.
2nd shot on the iron, blow average. Nail severed by 2/3, Part Kazakhstan remained in the nail.
Grand total — on properties — very similar to the same defect as that of the Griptilian, as well, and estimate — 4 points.
