February 2, 1971 in the town of Ramsar in Iran has signed the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, in the main, as Waterfowl Habitat. She received the title of the Ramsar Convention.
Day it was signed in 1997, was declared by the Global days of wetlands. This decision was made to direct the attention of national governments and the public on the importance of wetlands to maintain the sustainable development of the Earth.
The main objective of the Ramsar Convention, conservation and rational use of wetlands for the merits of sustainable development in the world.
More than 160 countries are parties to the Ramsar Convention. On the territory of Russia located 35 wetlands of international importance, which are listed in the Convention.
Russian Federation is one of the more affluent countries of the world aquatic resources. On the whole area of the country in rivers, lakes, swamps, glaciers and snowfields, as in underground water bodies are concentrated more than 20 percent of global supplies of fresh water.
