The blade of a folding knife Skif G-02SW is spear-shaped, with developed false blade on the butt and straight slopes to 2/3 of its width. Reduction of the cutting edge to 0.8 mm. and a rather thick point of the blade will only add confidence in the performance of power work. The stainless steel 8Cr13MoV, of which the Skif G-02SW blade is made, has already proven itself quite well on the knives of this manufacturer, both in terms of working qualities and in terms of corrosion resistance. Blade folding knife Skif G-02SW stonewash (sandblasting).
The main difference between the G-series and the previous 500th and 700th series of Skif folding knives is a handle with dies from different materials. On the one hand, the die is completely made of fiberglass G10, and on the other stainless steel, the Frame Lock is integrated into it. The Frame Lock reliably, without pronounced backlashes, fixes the blade of the Skif G-02SW folding knife in the open position. To protect against damage during heavy loads, a lock washer (Hinderer lockbar stabilizer) is installed on the lock, which acts as a fuse.
The design of the Skif G-02SW handle is completely collapsible, the dies are pulled together by two bonks and an axial screw, however, with such a thickness of the dies (4 mm.), There is no need to talk about any decrease in strength. There is a hole under the lanyard, axial washers made of yellow metal, presumably brass. There are no tricky internal cavities in the dies, so there will be no problems with cleaning and lubricating the knife. Well, perhaps only occasionally, with especially strong pollution, you have to disassemble the axial assembly. As for the build quality of the Skif G-02SW knife, there’s nothing to complain about.
In the design of the folding knife Skif G-02SW, the manufacturer paid a lot of attention to details. The first thing that immediately attracts attention is the axial screws for an ordinary flat screwdriver. But even if there is no screwdriver at hand, it does not matter, as it turned out, it can be successfully replaced by a 10 kopek coin. It fits perfectly in the thickness of the slot. The rectangular notch on the Frame Lock plate will increase the usability of the folding knife, and the already mentioned open handle design will facilitate the maintenance of the Skif G-02SW after work. Up to the point that you just rinsed in the nearest stream or deep puddle and that’s it.
The Skif G-02SW folding knife opens with a double-sided peg. In principle, it is equally convenient, both with the right and the left hand. To increase the convenience of holding the knife during work on the blade butt, near the handle, and on the handle dies, a large non-aggressive notch is applied. In the palm of your hand, the Skif G-02SW lies comfortably. The voluminous handle will allow you to work with a knife even with a glove, which will be especially important in the cold season, one of the dies is completely metal. The lock plate holds the blade firmly in the closed position and sometimes it is not so easy to open the knife, it will take some getting used to and skill.
The Skif G-02SW clip is moderately elastic, but it is not clear for what reason it is made non-reputable. Although free places for possible additional mounting points are on both dies. Despite the fact that with this arrangement of the clip, the knife will be in the pocket with the tip of the blade up, the probability of cutting is minimized due to the tight Frame Lock. With the general massiveness of the knife, the thickness of the handle is quite moderate (13 mm), so that there are no special difficulties when carried in a pocket, a little more than one centimeter of the handle protrudes outward. The length of the clip will allow you to fix the knife on the waist belt, without much risk of losing it.
Working qualities of a folding knife Skif G-02SW.
The cutting qualities of the Skif G-02SW folding knife were pleasantly pleased, even despite the thick flattening of the cutting edge. High direct descents make themselves felt. At the same time, the thickness of the cutting edge and the durable tip of the blade only add confidence when working on wood, forgiving in some cases a slightly barbaric attitude towards the knife.
In general, I liked the Skif G-02SW folding knife, and in my opinion, it came out very successful. It is not possible to present any special complaints, only a certain chagrin is caused by the lack of the ability to rearrange the clip. Skif, as represented by its developers, is gaining more and more reputation as a manufacturer of reliable and functional folding knives for camping and field conditions. Not to mention the fact that in such a price category folding knives with such a margin of safety come across not so often.
The folding knife Skif G-02SW is suitable both as an auxiliary knife and as a main knife for lovers of outdoor activities, excursions into nature and hiking of varying complexity. But its use as an everyday (EDC) city knife is somewhat controversial, primarily due to its size and weight. Well, Skif has no alternative yet.
P.S. Impressions after six months of using a folding knife Skif G-02SW.
As expected, as an everyday (EDC) city knife, the Skif G-02SW somehow did not take root. But very tightly occupied the niche of field-field-picnic products. The blade length of 9.5 centimeters, with a very, very rare exception, is usually enough for everything. I didn’t especially lose external attractiveness, although the scuffs on the blade and hilt certainly increased. Steel 8Cr13MoV behaves without surprises, sharpening maintains an acceptable time, corrects and grinds without difficulty and loss of time, which is very important for field conditions.
Corrosion resistance is good, both the blade and the knife as a whole. Forgives even a somewhat careless attitude. The open handle design makes cleaning and washing the knife very easy after use. She doesn’t need much lubrication, although occasionally dripping oil into the axial assembly will certainly not be superfluous. You can buy this knife at an affordable price, in the X-gear store.
