General design, design and build quality of the headlight Olight H05 Active.

The build quality of the Olight H05 Active is very good. Like all headlamps of this class, its body is made of hard plastic. The head of the lamp can tilt forward and down four fixed angles of 10, 25, 35 and 50 degrees, depending on the needs of the user.

Headband 25 mm wide soft, flexible, stretches well. Easily adjustable with single and double half rings. In the adjusted position it keeps well and does not loosen spontaneously on the head. It is quite long in length, so this headlamp can be easily put on over a thick winter hat or helmet. It is very convenient that the head mount is removable, because in case of contamination, nothing will prevent it from being removed and washed.

When folded in, the Olight H05 Active headlamp is very compact. In the photo below, it is packed in a small puff case and shown in comparison with a regular standard lighter.

And of course, the branded feature of the Olight H05 Active headlamp when looking at it from the front, it looks like a smiling emoticon. Sometimes it adds a lot of positive &# 128578;

Features of lighting, switching on and switching the operating modes of the headlight Olight H05 Active.

The white LED Cree XM-L2, which is located behind the TIR optics, gives a diffused luminous flux during operation, which forms a light spot of a slightly greenish hue with soft edges and small spills. The white LED Cree XM-L2 LED has three operating modes. According to the subjective impression, the average (30 lumens) and low (10 lumens) modes of operation of the flashlight are too close to each other. Low mode could be a little weaker.

Two red LEDs of 3528 have two operating modes. They simultaneously have constant or flashing modes. Both red modes seem useless, and in most cases can only serve as indicators for determining the user’s location. Their power is clearly not enough to conveniently read text in the dark. Only if you remove the flashlight from your head and bring it close to the text or topographic map.

All LEDs are turned on with a single button located on the head of the lamp. The button is large and comfortable, it is easy to find and press on the touch, if you do it purposefully. And it’s almost impossible to click accidentally. This ensures that even in a cramped and stuffed backpack, the Olight H05 Active headlamp will not turn on spontaneously from contact with other objects.

The on and off order is very simple. From the very beginning, the flashlight turns on the main white LED in High-mode and by single clicks goes to Medium, then to Low, and then turns off. Double-clicking in any operating mode turns off white and turns on red LEDs. A single press toggles between their modes.

The next double press returns the white LED to work again. There is a kind of memory from which mode of the white LED there is a transition to red, in such a flashlight and comes back. In addition, a long hold of the button in any of the modes automatically puts the lamp in High mode. A complete shutdown of the flashlight in a certain group of modes, again includes it in the same group.

LEDs, brightness and operating modes of the headlight Olight H05 Active.

The Olight H05 Active headlamp is powered by two lithium, alkaline or nickel-metal hydride batteries or AAA batteries, including LSD NiMH batteries with low self-discharge. Operating voltage 1.0 to 3.7 V.

When using AAA lithium batteries, the Olight H05 Active headlamp produces the following brightness values: High 150 lumens for 10 minutes, then 90 lumens for 280 minutes, Medium 30 lumens for 10 hours and Low 10 lumens for 40 hours.

When using Alkaline AAA batteries, the Olight H05 Active headlamp gives the following brightness values: High 150 lumens for 10 minutes, then 90 lumens for 180 minutes, Medium 30 lumens for 7 hours and Low 10 lumens for 35 hours.

The difficulties in the strongest mode of operation are explained by the following controlled by the built-in thermal protection program, the high-light mode of 150 lumens works only for the first 10 minutes, then the brightness decreases to 60% of the original, that is, to 90 lumens. With such brightness, the flashlight also works the rest of the time. So the declared maximum brightness of 150 lumens can be considered rather a marketing move.

General impressions of the headlamp Olight H05 Active.

In this category of lighting there are many models of headlamps from various renowned manufacturers, such as Pelican, Petzl, Black Diamond and many others. For some individual qualities, such as brightness or range of illumination, they can surpass and often surpass H05 Active. But here in terms of a combination of useful qualities, the Olight H05 Active headlamp can give odds to most of them. For example :

1. Probably the most important advantage is the work from TWO practically everywhere available AAA batteries. Notice from TWO, not from THREE. If you have ever changed three batteries or charged three batteries, then you will understand what it is about. A small example, most compact camping chargers have two, and only in very rare cases, four slots. Therefore, sometimes at the same time to charge a full set of batteries for the flashlight, if there are three of them, it is simply impossible.

2. A very simple interface to turn on, off and control one button. There are no unnecessary modes such as strobe or special SOS signal.

3. TIR optics, small size and weight, and at the same time a robust plastic case with ample IPX4 security and a constant smile &# 128578;

4. It is an acceptable price, even in times of economic crisis. As of the beginning of December 2017, the Olight H05 Active headlamp can be purchased for only 481 hryvnias (about $ 18) at a discount, or for 653 hryvnias (about 24 dollars) without a discount.

Undoubtedly, it is worth mentioning that, in our opinion, the disadvantages are not fast access to the weakest mode, the existing weak mode is not weak enough and ultimately economical, sometimes the angle of the head of the lamp is insufficient, in some cases I would like more than 50 degrees.

In custody.

The necessary flashlight Olight H05 Active has an older brother Olight H05S Active, which has a large brightness, an infrared sensor for remote control of the flashlight, an indicator of low battery power and the backlight of the battery compartment. In any case, whichever of these two headlamps you choose, in the field you will always have a light that you will be pleased with.
