The main task of the national knife is to solve daily problems that residents of a particular territory regularly face. That is why such knives are quite similar if the peoples who used them lived in similar conditions and were relatively similar in cultural characteristics. However, the differences were still there. What we will tell on the example of the national Tajik knife called cord.
To begin with, the origin. Tajiks are descended from the Persians, and therefore national persian knife card smoothly turned into cord. Actually, in Tajik language, this word still means “knife.” In some ways, it has become complicated, in some things has changed, in order to better meet the new conditions. But since the card was more like a universal instrument with signs of combat, then in cord these properties are preserved.
That is why modern knives cords often refer to full-fledged weapons. Unlike the same pchak. Moreover, one of the main forms of the cord, called “gov kushchi”, is translated as “cow-beast”. And indeed, used for the slaughter of cattle. This means that it can be useful against small hornless cattle. But it’s not about that.
Cord knife – a knife with a straight blade, one-sided sharpening and a long handle of the universal execution of bone or horn. Used in household needs, in particular – for cutting meat. In many ways similar to pchek, However, knowledgeable people have the following features:
- Straight and parallel butt, not a wedge like a p-paw
- Thicker blade
- Blade straight, without lifting from the tip (Trailing point)
- Wider valleys, which, moreover, can be up to 4 pieces, and they are not necessarily symmetrical
- Stamp is not on the blade, and on the garda
- Shank – a single unit with the blade, also comes to the end of the handle
- Arm cavities filled with lead (or other heavy filler)
I.e knife cord more reliable and solid, with a heavier handle and with valleys, which are quite used for their intended purpose. All signs of cold weapons on the face. Therefore, in the USSR it was rarely to be found in a legal sale. It is now the masters are able to adjust their weapons so that it does not formally correspond to the signs of CW.
There are 3 types cords, depending on the size. The largest – 18-25 cm, just used for slaughtering. Medium – 14-17 cm, was the main working tool. A small knife up to 14 cm was intended for women. In addition to size, there were practically no other differences.
As for the handle, then there are composing options. But they are much less common. Another feature is that the “branded” sheath to cords do not do. Not accepted. But it is not forbidden to make them yourself or adapt the sheath of other knives for this purpose.
