Overview of the Tigre rifle

As actually I already wrote in the third part of the Armory IMHO, Svd without a doubt, is the “grandmother” of all DMRok in the world. Its acquisition was restrained only by the inability to use modern sighting systems on it. If you read the previous “IMHO”, then you might have noticed that the same AKM I have acquired, having the opportunity to ergonomically bring it to the level of the same AR-ki

And now, the moment has come when the same can be done with Svd. Adopted in the early 60s, it is almost half a century older than the most modern weapons of “infantry snipers”, but this remarkable rifle is still equally involved in armed conflicts around the world, successfully competing with these samples.

SVD, its appearance is beautiful, organic, and half a century later attracts the eye of ganophiles from around the world ....SVD, its appearance is beautiful, organic, and after half a century it attracts the eye of ganophiles from all over the world ….

How this weapon was created and by whom – about this my today’s story …

Dragunov sniper rifle

It should be understood that the post-war Soviet defensive doctrine at the turn of 1946 and 1960 radically changed from passive defensive to offensive. Moreover, the offensive doctrine was essentially defensive, because the main goal was to dump the expeditionary American units on the English Channel and not allow them to gain a foothold on the mainland of Europe.

The doctrine of sowing was a consequence of the significant backlog of the USSR in the development of strategic nuclear weapons, and most importantly, their means of delivery. Moreover, the leadership of the USSR perceived nuclear weapons (NW) as an indicator of power, nothing more, and was not integrated with military doctrine as such at that time. The maximum that could be counted on is using it in the enemy’s nearby rear areas, that is, in fact – as tactical nuclear weapons (TNW).

It was then that the country’s leadership set the priority for the development of rocket technology and the complete re-equipment of the army, taking into account actions in an offensive war, using tactical nuclear forces. It was during this period that the tank was laid down, developed and adopted. T54 and its modification for the conduct of hostilities in the conditions of use of nuclear weapons – T55. The tanks were to immediately reach the line “West Bank of the Rhine”, to cross over and within a week to approach the English Channel.

According to the plan, the presence of many rivers should not restrain the advance of the advanced units of the armed PT76, and the infantry should not lag behind the armor on BTR60 and BMP1. From the air, the parts will be covered MiG17, and in the operational depth of the front will work IL28. Everything was set up on a “blitzkrieg” – first to dislodge expeditionary and local NATO forces from airfields and bases, and then not to let the imperialists transfer new troops to Europe to capture the bridgehead, in order to use long-range aircraft and atomic bombs on board …

The main emphasis in this doctrine was placed on osnaz, airborne troops and, of course, on infantry, which naturally resulted in the adoption of modern types of infantry weapons, in particular small arms. AK (later AKM), PKK, and of course Svd.

“In 1958, a team of designers of target sports weapons under the leadership of Evgeny Dragunov, the famous creator of sports firearms, received the task of developing a sniper rifle. They had to combine the maneuverability and unpretentiousness of self-loading weapons with accuracy and accuracy of fire.

When designing a sniper rifle, the Dragunov design team faced a lot of difficulties, which was mainly associated with gaps between different parts of the rifle. It was necessary to ensure optimum density in order to have excellent accuracy. But large gaps provide a good resistance of the weapon to pollution and other influences. As a result, the designers came to a reasonable compromise. After long trials, in 1963, the Soviet Army entered the rifle under the designation Svd.”

When disassembled, the first thing that catches the eye is the absolute dissimilarity with AK, although many are quite convinced that the SVD is structurally close to AK. In fact, the gas engine is almost identical to the same HK MR308, but the USM solution in the form of a fully removable unit is, in my opinion, a wonderful solution in general.

Its main purpose is to support a motorized rifle squad with “pinpoint” fire. The doctrine did not provide for trench warfare and ambush actions of individual snipers. A combat unit — an infantry unit required firepower, transportation, and the ability to conduct dense fire at various distances and for various purposes, hence machine guns, machine guns, RPGs, and a semi-automatic high-speed sniper rifle that can hit unarmored targets at distances exceeding effective automatic fire – 800 meters. In this case, the shooter acted as part of the department. Svd successfully fit into this concept:

“… On the third day, the advance units of the 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division approached the Rhine. After rising in alarm from the base in Eberswald, overcoming the residual and weak resistance of the Bundeswehr, 3 the Guards Tank Army, together with VolksArmi of the GDR, speaking out of Leipzig, cut through a rectangle like a hot knife through the oil, bypassing major cities, the rectangles, the tops of which were Leipzig, Ganes, and Frankfurt. The scouting team coped with the task – on BTRs, supported by the PT76, immediately crossing the Rhine south of Küblenz, entrenched on the west bank and covering the pontoon ferry, led by engineering teams.

MiG17s were hanging in the air, dispersing the few A4 Skyhawks, but the F86 Saebrov and F4 Phantom, so they were getting the first hours of the operation, was not visible, their base was captured by the 10th Guards Tank Division on T55, which had broken through to Ramstein after hitting a tactical nuclear bomb, which inflicted Il28A 24th Air Army.

Guard Lieutenant Ivanov, wiping the sweat interspersed with soot, idly watched the construction of the pontoon crossing. The detachment dismounted and rested, only the machine gunner did not leave the open body of the BTR and looked anxiously at the glow in the southeast — Ramstein was burning in the hellish flame of a nuclear reaction.

Ivanov examined the fighters and shook his head – Sergeant Petrov, a veteran of the Second World War, a sniper who took Konigsberg, spread out a fresh dressy cloak, disassembled the gas outlet, cleaned the piston rod of the SVD. The lieutenant closed his eyes and remembered how, just six months ago, Petrov rumbled, handing over the SVT and receiving the secret SVD. However, after a couple of hours, having brought the gunsmith to a heart attack by the fact that he had taken the rifle apart to the screw, Sanych, colleagues from Petrov called themselves like that, fingered and rubbed the details with love.

Five days ago, leaving the RPD as a march, the company in which Ivanov served as the squad leader, practically without engaging in direct clashes, moved towards the Rhine following the retreating Germans. He did not even see the enemy, so the shadows and silhouettes in a blurred camouflage, flickering among the trees. All the work was done by aviation, artillery, and the DRGs of both the SA and the People’s Army of the GDR. They did not enter the cities, “German comrades” worked there …

The exception was Petrov – his SVD practically did not cease. The Germans initially used the tactics of ambush, using anti-tank grenade launchers, attacked the columns from close distances, but suffered heavy losses with minimal success. They were simply swept away by fire by motorized infantry, covered by sides of armored personnel carriers. Subsequently, they changed tactics – at first they disturbed the convoy from afar with machine guns, then fired at a stopped or slowed down column from M19 – a 60 mm mortar from a distance of 1 km, and quickly disappeared into the forest, making a couple of volleys before tank guns were induced on them. The enemy did not damage the tanks, but nevertheless the infantry began to bear significant losses …

It was here that the talents of full-time “infantry” snipers showed up: immediately after the start of the shelling, a dozen snipers of the company at a distance of 800-1000 meters began to push down mortar positions, right from the armored personnel carriers. Their well-coordinated rapid fire was fast and destructive, much more effective than anti-aircraft machine guns – as a result, no more than 2-3 minutes fell on the convoy … For 5 days of the march, not a single tank fired, while the snipers shot three ammunition kits, and now constantly signed by machine gunners …

Ivanov opened his eyes, and the words of the battalionist sounded in their ears as if in reality: “The guys have arrived. Ahead Metz, there is a natural meat grinder. The advance units of the 10th were stopped by the regrouped remnants of the 7th US Army together with the British, French and Germans. They need to be dumped into the English Channel by the end of the 15th day, given that the estimated arrival time of the “Old Men-Zheleznobok” is the 1st armored division of the US Army, plus 100 hours. In the operational rear of the enemy, the 28th Elahs bomb everything that moves, our sky, but the enemy beats to death with the stubbornness of suicide bombers. If the Yankees are unloaded in Marseilles, the war will drag on. ”

Ahead awaited heavy fighting on the way to the strait … “

That war, thank God, was never there, but there were many others, and everywhere, a dry, barking shot Svd Notify the enemy about the problems. Forty years later, coalition troops climbed into the Middle East and Afghanistan. Literally the first weeks of the “police” or “stabilization” operation brought bad news – the rebels with Svd in the mountains they cause significant losses, while they are beyond the reach of the regular M16 and M4. The Americans urgently got from warehouses M14 …

The turn of history is interesting when 20 years before SA faced “dushmans” in the mountains of Afghanistan, Svd effectively fought with the rebels, armed with the old, but accurate and long-range Enfield, now here the “spirits” changed the Enfield to Svd

Here, by the way, is a cut scene from the movie “rambo”, where the hero Stallone effectively works from the SVD for 1000 yards

Device and principle of operation of SVD

“7.62-mm Dragunov sniper rifle (Svd, Index GRAU – 6V1) – self-loading sniper rifle, developed in 1957-1963 by a group of designers under the leadership of Evgeny Dragunov.

For firing from the SVD, rifle cartridges of 7.62 × 54 mm R are used with ordinary, tracer and armor-piercing incendiary bullets, as well as sniper cartridges (7Н1, 7Н14), and can also fire cartridges with expansive bullets JHP and JSP. Fire from SVD is conducted by single shots. Submission of ammunition when shooting is made from a box magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds. A flame arrester with five longitudinal slits is mounted on the muzzle of the barrel, which also conceals a shot during night operations and protects against contamination of the barrel. The presence of a gas regulator to change the rollback speeds of moving parts ensures the reliability of the rifle in operation.

The rifle is completed with an optical sight PSO-1M2, it is possible to install night sights NSPUM or NSPU-3.

When fired, a part of the powder gases, following the bullet, rushes through the gas outlet in the barrel wall into the gas chamber, presses the front wall of the gas piston and throws the piston with the pusher, and with it the slide frame into the rear position.

When the bolt carrier retracts the bolt, it opens the barrel bore, removes the cartridge case from the chamber and throws it out of the receiver, and the bolt carrier compresses the return spring and cocks the trigger (puts it on the self-timer platoon).

The slide frame with the bolt returns to the forward position under the action of the return mechanism, while the bolt retracts the next cartridge from the magazine to the chamber and closes the barrel bore, and the slide frame removes the self-timer sear from under the self-trigger platoon and the trigger is on the combat platoon. The bolt is locked by turning it to the left and closing the bolt lugs into the cut-outs of the receiver.

To make another shot, you must release the trigger and press it again. After the release of the trigger, the thrust moves forward and its hook climbs behind the sear, and when the trigger is pressed the hook of the draft turns the sear and disconnects it from the cocking of the trigger. The trigger, turning on its axis under the action of the mainspring, strikes the firing pin, and the latter moves forward and punctures the cartridge primer. Shot occurs.

When fired by the last cartridge, when the shutter retracts, the magazine feeder raises up the shutter stop, the shutter rests against it and the bolt carrier stops in the rear position. This is a signal that the rifle must be re-charged.

In accordance with the “Guidance on the rifle case,” the accuracy of a rifle battle is considered normal if, when firing four shots from a prone position to a distance of 100 m, all four holes fit in a circle with a diameter of 8 cm. Shooting is carried out using bullets from a single batch with ordinary bullets. with steel core.

Initially Svd It was produced with a 320 mm rifling pitch, similar to sporting weapons and ensuring high accuracy of fire, but when adopting a rifle it became clear that with such a pitch the B-32 armor-piercing and incendiary bullets doubled. As a result, it was decided to change the cutting pitch to 240 mm, which led to an increase in the standard for dispersion at a distance of 100 m from 8 cm to 10 cm (which, however, was not reflected in the NSD). When firing sniper chuck 7H1 dispersion is (depending on the groove pitch) no more than 10-12 cm at a distance of 300 m. “

As for my personal opinion – SVD was my dream

Since I started shooting more closely, I immediately realized that, being a good rifle, Svd, nevertheless, it was ergonomically inferior to modern DMR, in particular – H&K MR 308, what I actually wrote about in one of the issues of the photo review “Armory IMHO”.

But here is a MIRACLE !!!! Valentin Vlasenko, this is SAG, starts developing a chassis for the SVD !!! And not just a body kit, with the possibility of ergonomic improvement of the rifle – the idea was to get a “hung out” barrel! Knowing very well about the quality of Valentina products, I immediately contacted him and immediately ordered the first product sample, not having the carbine itself and not knowing what would happen. As a result, I got the chassis a couple of weeks earlier than the Tiger itself acquired.

So the Tiger appeared after being removed from the factory package. I will not write what the Tiger differs from the authentic SVD, because many articles have been written about it, I can only say that I was satisfied with the chrome-plated trunk and grooves with a step of 320 mm ...So the Tiger appeared after being removed from the factory package. It so happened that along with the photo reviews I began to keep my video journal on YouTube, where there is a series of frontal comparisons with H&K 308, as well as “parquet reviews” of these unique rifles. Here they are:

Well, now actually my photo review. I decided not to photograph in detail the internal details. Tigra, unlike the same Heckler, in a disassembled state that few have seen. Svd – she is in Africa Svd there is also no photo of the targets, as they are presented in the video reviews.

If you wish, I can of course disassemble everything into cogs and describe them in photographs, but for some reason it seems to me that this is unnecessary. At least, in past reports such photos of “likes” were not collected)))
