Repellents for protection against gnats, dimethyl phthalate, DMF, diethyltoluamide, DETA, benzimine, hexamide, dibutyl phthalate, DEXA, indalon, carboxide, cusol, repellin-alpha, their properties and effects on mosquitoes, midges, biting midges and horseflies.

For individual and group protection of people from gnats, blood-sucking insects, such as mosquitoes, midges, midges and horseflies, use repellent substances, or repellents. From the Latin word repel- drive away, scare.

Repellents for protection against gnats, dimethyl phthalate, DMF, diethyltoluamide, DETA, benzimine, hexamide, dibutyl phthalate, DEXA, indalon, carboxide, cusol, repellin-alpha, their properties and effect on mosquitoes, midges, biting midges and horseflies.

Repellents act in three ways:

Prevent the insect from choosing a host. That is, they neutralize the natural smell of the skin and deprive it of attractiveness to blood-sucking insects..
Obstruct the landing and puncture of the skin. In this case, the drugs affect the olfactory organs of bloodsuckers.
Provide mechanical skin protection.

Industry produces repellents with varying effectiveness.

Repellents for protection against gnats, dimethyl phthalate, DMF, diethyltoluamide, DETA, benzimine, hexamide, dibutyl phthalate, DEXA, indalon, carboxide, cusol, repellin-alpha, their properties and effects on mosquitoes, midges, biting midges and horseflies.

Dimethylphthalate – DMF.

Colorless, odorless oily liquid, insoluble in water. Protects mosquitoes and mosquitoes for 3-6 hours, from midges to 3 hours. Against horseflies is ineffective. Included in the formulation of mixtures of other repellents as a solvent.

Diethyltoluamide – DETA.

Light oily liquid with a faint aromatic odor. The drug is available in the form of a 40 percent alcohol solution. When applied to the skin, it repels mosquitoes and biting midges for 10-12 hours, midges about 6 hours. Clothes treated with DETA aerosol scare away bloodsuckers for 2-3 days, and soaked in 20-30% emulsion, protects against midges for a month. Relatively worse scares off horseflies.

Benzimine (hexamide).

A colorless or slightly yellowish liquid with a faint, pleasant smell. It is steady when stored in the light. Dissolves plastic products and some types of acetate fabrics. When applied to the skin, it is inferior to DETA in the duration of the protective effect against mosquitoes, but on tissues it is one of the most resistant drugs. Well repels midges and horseflies.

Dibutyl phthalate.

Transparent colorless liquid, insoluble in water. Used to process clothing. At a temperature of 20 degrees it is effective during the day.

DEXA.

Colorless liquid with a specific faint odor. Highly active repellent has a skin-irritating property, therefore it is recommended for the treatment of tents, clothes, wraps, nets and other items. For this purpose, a concentrate formulation has been developed, which includes:

80% DEXA.
11% DMF.
3% OP-7 (emulsifying agent).
Up to 100% Solvent Polymers.

DEXA-impregnated items provide complete protection of a person from bloodsucker bites for 2-3 weeks.

Indalon.

A thick oily liquid of a rather pleasant smell, insoluble in water. The drug is applied to clothing. They are impregnated with protective nets. In terms of effectiveness, it is slightly weaker than DMF.

Carboxide.

Transparent or slightly yellowish liquid, almost odorless. The drug is used to impregnate clothing and purses, which then become oily to the touch and acquire a weak specific smell.

Cusol.

Syrupy liquid yellow. Dissolves varnishes and paints. The drug is applied to outerwear or impregnated with protective nets in order to protect against sinus. In hot weather, the drug is slightly more effective than dimethyl phthalate in effectiveness. With decreasing temperature, the efficiency of the cusol decreases.

Repellin Alpha.

It is a mixture of two repellents: 48% dimethyl phthalate, 50% benzoylpiperidine and 2% acellulose. It is an oily syrupy liquid, yellowish, poorly soluble in water. In order to protect against sinus, the drug is applied to the skin, to clothes, impregnated with a mesh. In conditions of a large number of blood-sucking insects, its effectiveness is 1.5 times higher than dimethyl phthalate.

Liquid repellents for individual and group protection against bloodsucking insects.

All repellents are divided into liquid, soft, hard and aerosols. They are produced by enterprises of household chemicals, as well as pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Liquid repellents are intended for application to the skin without dilution, as well as for impregnation of various items of clothing, nets, etc. Since most repellent substances are almost insoluble in water, the liquid preparation is their solution in an organic solvent or lotion with a complex composition.

Repellent aerosols for individual and group protection against bloodsucking insects.

The aerosol can allows you to apply the substance in a finely divided state. In addition to DETA, benzimine, carboxide, benzoyl-peridine, and mixtures of these drugs are used as repellents. Aerosol cans are convenient to use. The industry produces aerosols Taiga, Taiga-2, Taiga-3, DETA and others.

Soft and hard repellents for individual and group protection against bloodsucking insects.

Some repellents have the appearance of pastes, ointments, creams, which vary in consistency and composition. These include DETA, Geologist, Redet, Taiga, Direpellin, Tabu-B and others. Solid repellents – pencils, bars, soaps – are convenient for use, storage and transportation. However, they have not yet been widely used..

There is another form of repellent. Napkins called repiben and repdifen. Repellent wipes, impregnated with special formulations, are designed for one-time application of repellents on exposed skin. They have a mosquito repellent effect for 2-4 hours, are compact, lightweight, take up little space.
