The last place where I would like to stay overnight in the rainforest is a person who is there, this is the earth. Indeed, at this time, many inhabitants of these places go out to search for prey. From millipedes and spiders, dosmes, bats, wild boars and large felines. The warm body of a person who finds himself in a forest at night at ground level will attract all predators, large and small. Knowing how to make a simple hammock from bamboo will be very helpful in this situation..
The simplest hammock made of bamboo for spending the night in a tropical forest, the choice of material and manufacturing procedure.
Of course, the best temporary shelter in the jungle will be a factory-made nylon hammock in the form of a cocoon, in which the sleeping person will be above the ground. A small, collapsible and easy to assemble camping hammock, specially designed for tropical rainforest conditions, can be easily tied between trees. And above it, at a distance of several tens of centimeters, stretch a rope over which a mosquito net will be thrown.
However, if your main hammock is torn (which is quite possible when you consider how many plants with thorns are in the jungle), you can quickly make an amazingly durable place to sleep from just one bamboo trunk. Start making yourself the simplest bamboo hammock long before sunset. Due to the dense crown of trees, darkness in the rainforest occurs before the sun disappears beyond the horizon.
Making a simple hammock from bamboo for an overnight stay in the rainforest.
Choose a piece of green, lively, durable large-diameter bamboo and take advantage of the unique flexibility of this plant. The bamboo stalk should be about 60–90 cm longer than your height. With strong ends, for which it can be attached to trees with a vine or paracord. To create a simple hammock from a bamboo trunk you will need:
Cut a large portion in the middle of the bamboo. Leaving intact the short ends of 30 centimeters on both sides.
Fasten pieces of vines at both ends. They must be long enough so that this simple hammock can be securely suspended.
Carefully cut with a sharp knife the middle part of the bamboo trunk into several parts 3-5 cm wide.
Cut into short pieces of bamboo. Make them crossbars for horizontal stripes. So that your simple hammock is wide enough.
Snap the ends of the resulting hammock to suitable trees.
The resulting design will be able to support the weight of your body. During sleep in a suspended position, you will be exposed to circulating air. The jungle is cool at night. Therefore, for additional isolation, put leaves or chopped branches of shrubs on your simplest hammock made of bamboo.
Of course, none of these measures can guarantee a comfortable night’s sleep. However, they will maximize your chances that you wake up in the morning and see another sunrise.
