Author’s knife Memorable, description, review, test, impressions and conclusions from the design of the knife and its sheath.

The first acquaintance with this knife, it was decided to conduct without any special tests with the load. I just wanted to turn the author’s memorable knife in my hands, try to scold it on myself, do some simple and uncomplicated work with it.

a bonfire at my voluntary assistant there was an unpleasant sensation in the thumb pad.

the knife handled the products confidently, however, there was no doubt about that. The only thing worth noting is that the length of the blade of the author’s memorial knife is insufficient to cut even half a loaf of bread. But this is not some significant drawback, but the design features of the knife. In the end, he wasn’t made a special bread.

paracord and a spring-loaded clamp. The weight of the knife with the scabbard is 240 grams, so wearing it around the neck for a long time very quickly became uncomfortable, but over your shoulder it’s quite at hand. But it’s worth it to provide some kind of horizontal fixation of the scabbard, the weight matters here too, so the Memorable knife will rather actively strive to move forward at the most inopportune moment and prevent you.

birch sap and cut off the bark (see video) from the fallen birch. The bark, or rather bark, was needed for further work, because with the help of this knife it was planned to organize the so-called fast bonfire.

After the spring light birch forest, it was not very pleasant to enter the gloomy, even at this time of year, acacia thicket. Upon arrival at the place, the first thing to do was plan out two plugs, which were then driven into holes in the birch from which birch sap was taken. This must be done, otherwise the tree may dry out and die. It must be said that the memorable knife is planing famously, everything contributes to this, both the blade system and the convenient handle. And what a little obscures the pleasure is an aggressive notch in the butt, however, I already wrote about this.

flint, and sparks set fire to small shavings of birch bark (see video), which were scraped with a knife. I had a lighter with me, even two, but firstly I wanted to see how the steel holds a spark on the blade of Memorable, and secondly, an extra workout will never hurt. To carve sparks from the flint, a very aggressive notch on the knife butt, which interferes with the work, came in handy. The knife itself was not hurt at all.

A small, for 5 minutes, combined video of all the work done and the tests of the author’s knife.

General conclusion about the design and working qualities of the author’s knife.

As I wrote at the beginning, the conclusion will not be entirely unequivocal. On the one hand, a soundly and qualitatively made author’s knife with a convenient handle, besides a collapsible, and beautiful scabbard. On the other hand, a stiff notch of the butt near the handle and an acute transition of the subdigital recess to the cutting edge do not make it possible to use the potential inherent in this knife to the full.

In my opinion, in its current form, the author’s Memorial knife is not suitable for any lengthy work where at least some kind of load is expected, which will be more than that necessary for cutting products. And further. Unfortunately, I did not control the state of the cutting edge of the knife immediately after each stage of preparation for a bonfire. It felt like during the work, there was no need for this, the knife cut confidently and stably, and the 95×18 steel declared on the blade is not soft Sandvik.

However, looking at the cutting edge after completing all the work, I was surprised to find on it microzamines and possibly micro-chips that are clearly visible to the eye. In the photo below, they are indicated by red arrows. It turned out to smooth out some of them with ceramic musat, but the most obvious ones still remained. And the scope of work was very small. Therefore, with a high degree of probability, based on my experience, I can assume that the blade of the author’s knife is Memorable or is made of some steel grade lower than 95×18, for example 65×13 or its analogues, or is it some kind of unfinished 95×18.
