The idea of ​​an alcohol burner made from a tin or aluminum can is not new. Such a device has long been used by hunters and fishermen in nature to warm up a cup of tea or to cook food without a campfire, and in living conditions a spirit stove for the same purpose often helps when there is a power cut. The alcohol burner is made from a can very simply, and if you experiment with its modification, you can adjust the height of the flames, the duration of combustion, as well as the amount of heat generated during the combustion of fuel. Can burnerFor the manufacture of the simplest spirit lamp you will need two aluminum cans of beer or any soda water. In order for the burner of beer cans not to smoke and not melt when burning, it is necessary to scrape its surface with emery paper to get rid of the paint. Then you need to cut off part of each of the cans, about 3 cm from the bottom, with a clerical knife. The cutting line must be smooth, so you can use a marker mounted on a 3-cm-high plank to draw this line, or you can fasten a stationery knife in a vice, while twisting the can, cutting off its desired part. Sharp edges of the cut part must be treated with sandpaper.

The resulting two identical parts of the cans must be joined by inserting one into the other. Since they have an equal diameter, the connection can be difficult, because insert one into the other so that between them there is no gap. Since aluminum is easily deformed, before cutting off the second billet, it is possible to stretch the cut, ready-made part of the future spirit lamp on the bottom of the whole jar, thus expanding its edges to the desired diameter.

After both parts are connected, you need to make holes with an awl or a 1-2 mm drill around the perimeter of the upper part of the spirit lamp. They can get 18-20 pieces with the same distance between them. To the flames rise up, the edges of the holes need to be bent up a little. At the top of the burner you need to make several holes of 3 mm diameter for pouring alcohol and adjusting the internal pressure of the vessel.

Alcohol can be simply poured into the burner, or you can put a cotton pad in it to make it soaked.

The burner from a beer can works very simply with its hands: 30 ml of alcohol is poured inside, the inlets in the center of the top are closed with a coin. The bottom of the spirit lamp is heated by a match, the vapor of alcohol ignites, forming flames coming out of the holes made around the perimeter.

To do this, you need to use a can of a slightly larger size, for example, from under canned food. On it you need to mark two lines: one at the height of the burner, the second at the height, more than the length of the burner twice. The top of the jar is cut off, and its walls are divided into 12 vertical cuts. Of this number, you need to leave six pieces, cutting off the extra ones in one. In the center of the bottom you need to make a hole for heating, and the remaining strips bend inward to the bottom. The stand is ready, it remains only to place an alcohol burner inside it.

Besides the fact that you can use beer aluminum cans, a spirit lamp can be made from ordinary cans. The burner made of coffee can or brewed tea with a tight-fitting lid is also excellent.

The principle of making a burner from a can is similar to that described above:

  1. The lid is made several holes for pouring alcohol.
  2. Next, you need to make holes in the diameter of the upper edge of the can at a distance of 1-1.5 cm. They should have a diameter of about 1 mm and the edges bent upward at an angle. This is necessary so that the alcohol vapors are directed upwards.
  3. Ignition cans are the same as beer, with pre-closed holes at the top with a coin.

In principle, it is possible to make an open alcohol burner, for this a lid is not needed. To do this, insert into it a plate of tin rolled up in a circle with a diameter smaller than the walls of a tin can. Inside the resulting circle in the center, alcohol is poured and ignited.

As with any flammable substance, handling alcohol requires caution. You can not fill them to the top of the bank, otherwise it may explode. In addition to alcohol, it is not recommended to use other types of fuel. The burner should not be installed at home on the table, because it can catch fire, and in general, when using a spirit stove in everyday life, it is necessary to use a stand for both the burner itself and the dishes. To extinguish a spirit-lamp, it is necessary to stop the access of oxygen to burning vapors of alcohol, for this you can cover it from above with a tin lid. It is not allowed to use the burner for heating small synthetic tents.
