CQD Mark V ATAC – one of the most promising combat knives in the world

CQD Mark V ATAC – is the fifth product in the model range of the series Close Quarters Defense (CQD). In turn, if translated literally, CQD is a defense program in direct contact with the enemy, the founder of which is also Dieter. Presentation Mark V at one time caused a sea of discussions and the most controversial opinions. Some at first glance recorded an extravagant blade into beautiful knick-knacks, which are akin to Hibben’s handicrafts. Others, on the contrary, considered him a worthy example of a thoughtful tactical knife.

Dieter, as the creator of the knife, set a goal to combine things that are incompatible at first glance – an effective weapon with a reliable tool. Based on this principle, it is not difficult to guess that any detail of the knife, whether it be the handle or the shape of the blade, was made not by chance, but in order to balance the rather diverse functions of the knife. For example, Mark V equally well serve for cutting ropes, wires, but at the same time they can be successfully used in self-defense.

Blade CQD Mark V ATAC

The knife has a dagger-shaped blade, with a 2/3 butt sharpening and a serreytor at the base. The length of the working part of the blade is 175 mm, this value is quite enough to damage all vital organs, and the knife does not lose its mobility and good handling. The blade geometry provides the knife with high cutting properties, since the concave part of the blade (near the handle) guides the material being cut to the protruding edge of the blade. In addition, the protruding bend located near the tip of the blade allows you to apply effective cuts, due to the biting movement of the brush. Double edged knife blade Mark V Easily enters the goal, allowing the owner to concentrate not on the strength of the attached movement, but on its accuracy. The advantages of a double-edged blade also include the possibility of different variations of combat use. Not sharpened butt blade provided with a stepped protrusion, which allows you to touch determine the depth of the blade. In addition, the protrusion can serve as a fulcrum in the case when the current combat situation requires it. For example, when ripping the return movement of the knife from the target. Thanks to the special geometry of the blade, among other things, it was possible to achieve good strength of the knife edge, which is an important factor. The only drawback of this blade is the complexity of its sharpening in field conditions.

Sharpening cutting edge has a saber, V-shaped type. Such sharpening increases the strength of the Republic of Kazakhstan and makes it possible to significantly aggravate the wounds inflicted by crushing the edges of fabrics. Steel selected material for Mark V, perfectly combines the strength of the RK and high impact strength of the blade. Steel A-2 is cooled in air, i.e. rather slowly and therefore the structure of the steel changes uniformly without sudden changes and the formation of internal stress. A-2 does not apply to stainless steels, as it contains only 5% chromium. Dieter justified the refusal of stainless steel by the fact that in this model the emphasis was placed on the strength of the blade, and as a result of this, on its ability to keep sharpening.

In order to protect against corrosion Mark V has two types of coatings. The first layer is a tungsten carbide film, characterized by high strength and wear resistance. Carbide tungsten coating is often used in industry for processing rollers of industrial printers and other similar parts, the task of which is to maintain the necessary roughness as long as possible. The second layer is Diamond Like Coating (DLT) – a coating based on an ultrathin film of carbon. This coating is characterized by high strength and hardness of 4000 Hv, as well as resistance to chipping. Garda and blade have a matte finish and are made in a dark color.

Garda and hilt

Garda Mark V (Striker Hilt) deserves special attention. In addition to the predatory species and the main tasks, such as preventing the hand from slipping, it also performs a number of functions. The specific form of the guard allows it to be used as a crowbar or opener, this is done in order to protect the blade from such crude types of work. In addition to domestic use Striker hilt It may well be useful in a combat situation, but this role is not so intuitively predictable. Dieter drew his inspiration in the technique of jutte jutsu and Wing Chun style, with the help of which he developed methods of blocking the enemy for a short distance.

This form of guard has only one major drawback, its protruding parts can catch on clothes or equipment. In order to solve this problem, Dieter developed a special movement with a brush, with the change of direct grip on the reverse, which will allow you to quickly release the weapon.

Handle Mark V it also does not lag behind the rest of the knife in terms of innovative technical solutions. At the top of the handle is a metal knob, which plays the role of a hammer. In front of him is an annular protrusion that prevents the hand from sliding. For the retention of the knife in any conditions are responsible two development of the author, namely – Grip seat system and Side hilt.

Grip seat system – the shape of the handle with shallow grooves under the fingers, equipped with special rough inserts. Such inserts increase the reliability of the hand grip, and in case of loss, they can be easily restored by the owner (the necessary adhesive tape is sold at any sporting goods store). In addition, the grooves can blindly determine the direction of the blade and thereby increase the efficiency of using the knife.

Side hilt – protrusions on the side surface of the handle, which play the role of additional protection against slipping and against enemy weapons. Side hilt It also acts as a finger rest when stabbing.

Lever Mark V Made of nylon using fiberglass. It is non-conductive, shock-resistant and tolerates high temperatures (withstands more than 200 degrees Celsius). The handle can be disinfected by boiling, it is resistant to fuels and lubricants and insecticides.

Sheath Mark V meet all existing standards – tough, made of durable material, do not absorb moisture, have haze and dark color. The main points taken into account when developing the sheath were the noiseless extraction of the knife and the most convenient fastening system. The sheath has two mutually independent fastening systems.

The material for the sheath was chosen prylon. Their design allows you to hide all the projections of the guard, thus avoiding unwanted engagement of the knife in clothes. The knife in the sheath is automatically fixed, to deactivate the mechanism, pull the knife away from you. The second fixation system is made in the form of a cap rubber ring. For fixing the scabbard to the outfit system is responsible Tek-Lok, has long won the position of the world standard fasteners. This mounting system has more than five possible positions of the sheath:

  1. Upright with the handle up;
  2. Upright with the handle down;
  3. Horizontally along the belt line;
  4. Horizontally above the belt (with a shift up);
  5. Diagonal (cross draw).
