CRKT Hissatsu: Spiteful fighting knife with a Japanese character

It just so happened that on this birthday I had an attack CRKT. Already four knives of this manufacturer turned out to be at home in the collection (and some potentially on the belt). Three of them come in one type and in one category.

The fact is that in addition to the same AT blades or Karambits, the blades for Japanese motives are very frightening me. So I became a meaningful owner CRKT Hissatsu.

TTH CRKT Hissatsu:

  • Blade: 440A
  • Hardness: 55-57 HRC
  • Blade profile: Tanto
  • Cutting edge: Plain
  • Blade cross section: Saber Grind
  • Blade Coating: Titanium Nitride
  • Arm installation: Hidden tang
  • Handle: Thermoplastic GRN with Dynaflex® rubber
  • Sheath: Zytel®
  • Blade length: 182 mm.
  • Knife length: 307 mm.
  • Butt thickness: 5.5 mm
  • Weight: 228 gr.

In general, who just does not climb into the section of tactical knives. And with some introductory ones, they do not. Cold Steel, for example, focuses on the fact that a tactical knife should be primarily a crowbar, which can disassemble an enemy tank. All the rest are either trying to mix the same logic by adding options depending on the tastes of the authors and owners of the companies. Recall, at least, the characteristic knives of Ditmar Field (Pohl Force) or the purely fighting and anti-human blades from Spartan Blades.

CRKT Hissatsu to a greater extent – it is lyudorez. No, of course, a 5.5 mm butt hints us of what may be of course, and you can pry the hatch, but still the very form of the blade and geometry hints that this may be the last use for it. Its main function is to prick and cut people. This is evidenced by the designer of the knife, James Williams.

In his own words, he was inspired by Japanese kanji blades. Although visually the knife is more like tati or kissashi. However, the experts will correct me, the historian from me is still. But in the end, the blade frankly predatory. Long, with a bend that ends at the tip significantly higher than the first line of the butt. All hints that it is necessary to stab and cut with a knife. Or maybe even chop. All the same, the length of the blade 18 centimeters – not a joke. Well, the geometry leads us to the fact that the knife is not very designed for heavy work. In principle, it is possible to cut the same tree, of course, but for this there are much more suitable knives.

That is, the knife in its functionality purely combat. No, of course, he also fulfills his economic goals, although at the expense of a half centimeter butt, he tries to break those same vegetables all the time. But the doctor’s degree cuts in such a way that it is pleasant … Although this once again confirms the idea that the knife works optimally for meat and near-meat products.

But if you abstract from the functional purpose (after all, those who need a lyudorez of this size, there are not many of them, especially in civilian life) the knife turned out to be beautiful. These very “Japanese motifs” allowed us to make an elegant blade shape. Yes, it is long. Yes, half the knife looks too thin. But this gradual reduction of the width of the blade to a minimum, and makes the main effect.

Despite the thick butt, it does not look heavy. It is also played on by the fact that the butt of the knife is not flat, but pyramidal. Any flat butt visually makes any blade harder, but here this feeling is not. In addition, there are no “stiffeners” on the blade, such as on AT-type blades. And this, again, plays on the visual lightness of the knife. This is despite the fact that the knife itself is quite weighty, only 20 grams lighter CS Recon Tanto.

Ergonomically, the knife is frankly not the best. On the one hand, the handle is comfortable (although it looks poor with such a blade), and from thoughtful material. On the other hand, a wet hand without a glove slips over it. Glove of course all changes for the better. But, for example, on the same SOG Tsunami (the next major candidate for purchase), the material on the handle is more thoughtful. Despite the fact that the shape is very similar, the hand there does not slip at all on the handle. This is not to mention the almost perfect handle of the same Recon tanto.

Well, again, such a handle of such a material (a mixture of rubber with plastic) in such a simple design and with such a blade … Well, I do not know. He does not look at all from the word at all. No, of course the situation can be corrected if you braid the handle with a cord in the corresponding tradition. But it requires a certain hemorrhoids. And the knife will no longer sit firmly in the complete sheath.

In short, that’s the handle, definitely a minus. Of course, the glove changes everything in terms of reliability of retention, but visually it still looks miserable. The only thing that saves is the version of the knife in the coloring Tan. Fashionable, stylish, tactical, well, and slightly softens the unpleasant visual sensations of the handle.

On the part of the sheath there is nothing to find fault with. The sheath is good, comfortable. Sophisticated, with a simple fastening system. Well, in principle, you can not even use a native suspension, and wear a “burdock” or mount on a paracord. So everything is simple, the sheath is fit and comfortable.

What to say in the end? The knife is beautiful. Very elegant blade, which looks and feels easier than it actually is. But still it terribly spoils the wretched handle. Well, the moment associated with the fact that she still slips in her bare hand. Of course the glove changes everything, the knife becomes quite comfortable, but whatever one may say – the joint is there. The knife is interesting, with a rather narrow specialization, which practically has no application in peaceful life. But still, all the same, for such a blade I can forgive something. What he did.

P.S. I want to draw your attention to one curious fact. The fact is that if you look at the photos, the knife with a polished blade is different from the painted ones. In the photo it seems that there is a certain stiffener and imitation of the transition between the two RK. In fact, there is no transition and no edge. Just on the polished version you can see the difference in blade processing. In the first half, it is rather rough relative to the second part. But at the same time there is no difference in the shape and geometry of the blade relative to the colored versions. The whole thing is just painting the blade.
