The meadow horsetail has horizontal, unbranched, trihedral branches. River horsetail has a thick tall stalk of about 80-100 cm, with simple branches or without them. Marsh horsetail has unbranched, usually pentagonal, branches directed obliquely upward with black bases. It is poisonous, but in small quantities will not harm.
