Dressing hides at home, soaking, removing subcutaneous fat, pickling, tanning, fatliquoring.

Dressing prepared by primary processing of animal skins, after degreasing, dressing and drying, can be done independently, at home. In the recipe given, almost no chemicals are used, and the skin is soft and resistant to wear.

Dressing hides at home, soaking, removal of subcutaneous fat, pickling, tanning, fatliquoring.

The first stage is the soaking of raw materials in dishes that are not susceptible to oxidation. In this case, paired (fresh) skins are in hot water for 3-4 hours. Dry skins are soaked in two stages. Initially, their dressing is like a pair. Then they are kept for 10-12 hours in a solution containing 40-45 g of sodium chloride per liter of water. Salt should be taken stone, large.

Pickling skins.

The third stage is pickling. It consists in immersing the skins for 4-6 hours in a solution of acetic acid (10-15 g per liter of water) at a temperature of 35-40 degrees. At the end of the pickling, the skins are folded outward in piles. After a day they are squeezed, and the remaining acid on the hairline is neutralized with a solution of soda (1-1.5 g per liter of water).

Tanning hides.

The fourth stage is a very important operation, tanning. It can be chrome or tannin. When chrome tanning, the raw materials are kept in a solution of chromium oxide (1.5-2 g per liter of water) at a temperature of 35-40 degrees. The duration of stay of raw materials in solution is 8-20 hours.

Tannin tanning is carried out in decoction of willow or alder. The process ends when the skin is completely saturated. In order not to miss this moment, it is convenient to use a magnifying glass. With its help, yellow staining is clearly visible on the cut.

Zhirov skins.

The fifth stage is the fatliquoring. After two days of bedding and wringing, they begin to fatten the skins with an emulsion. For this, it is necessary to dissolve laundry soap (200 g per liter) in water at a temperature of 40–45 degrees and gradually add animal fat (80 g per liter) and ammonia (10 mg per liter) to the solution with stirring. The fat emulsion should be applied with a brush to the mezra and put the skins outward in piles of hair.

After 3-4 hours, they need to be hung and dried at room temperature. After that, the dried-up raw materials are creased and stretched in different directions. The mezdra is rubbed with chalk or tooth powder, and then shake and comb the hair.
