A comparative test of the Fallkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P survival knives took place in the Carpathians. With knives, they did not stand on ceremony or regret. This allowed us to fully and clearly determine their working qualities. The tests lasted three days, so in order not to bore the description of the whole process, I will lay out short generalized conclusions.

Knives Fallkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P products.
The knives arrived safely upstairs in the rucksack and set to work immediately upon arrival. Peeling and slicing potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage went quietly and without opening. All these operations are convenient to do with both knives, but I would like to note a more convenient and quiet cut of the knife Rat Cutlery RC-3P. Unlike the Fallkniven F1 knife, he did not seek to go deeper into the products, removed finer chips and was more manageable than the F1 knife. According to the results of this test, preference is given to the knife Rat Cutlery RC-3P.

Before the can test began, there were fears that the black polymer coating would come off the Rat Cutlery RC-3P. As it turned out, they were afraid in vain. The coating passed the test with flying colors, which cannot be said about the laminate of the Fallkniven F1 blade, scratches appeared on it. In general, the three-layer laminated steel of the F1 knife brought a lot of unexpected surprises. I could not find the information what these pads on the VG-10 central layer are made of, but it seems that the material used is a little stronger than ordinary plastic. At least the can test showed it clearly.
Fallkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P knives test for digging ability.
From the next digging test, both knives came out with damage to the cutting edge. There were a lot of small pebbles in the ground. Only the nature of the damage turned out to be completely different, on the Fallkniven F1 knife, the cutting edge crumbled out, and on the Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife it jammed. As a result, the sharpening of the F1 knife on a triangular brown pebble from the sharpener took about half an hour, and they could not completely restore the cutting edge. The Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife was sharpened for about three minutes and the cutting edge was completely restored. A hedgehog, who had run close by his business, decided to see what three adult uncles were digging so enthusiastically there. I saw nothing interesting and ran on.
Test knives Fallkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P on wood.
During cracking of beech hemp, a thick dry stick played the role of a mallet. I don’t know what the laminate linings on the Fallkniven F1 knife are made of, but the damage to the butt was noticeable and this was from a dry thick branch! When chopping with an F1 knife, it was necessary to exert a greater force than with a Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife to drive it into a tree, the thickness and shape of the blade affect. But if you drove and make lateral effort, then of course the F1 knife is beyond competition, there is no fear of damaging the blade. The Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife is still more delicate and you need to be more careful with it.
In places of dry stick blows on the butt of the Fallkniven F1 knife, clear and clearly visible jamming appeared, but the Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife coating on the butt did not suffer at all. Very amusing situation, not amenable to logical explanation. After all, any iron should be harder than polymer by default.

The rust test both knives also went differently. After cutting the cheese, they were first stuck in a tree, and then laid overnight in the wet grass after rain.
Knife Fallkniven F1 covered with large spots of rust on all three layers of the laminate.
The knife Cut Ratlery RC-3P rusted cutting edge and a little inscription. By the way, the manufacturer warns that without proper care, these places will rust.
Throwing test knives Fallkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P.
Of course, not without barbaric throwing test. Damage sustained by the handle of the Fallkniven F1 knife in the photographs. Knife handle Rat Cutlery RC-3P not affected.
Fieldkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife sharpening in the field.
To test the possibility of sharpening knives in the field on stones, two pieces of hard sandstone were taken. Rubbing them together, they achieved that one of the sides became more or less even and smooth, and they ground it on it. It is unambiguous to say that one or the other knife is sharpened better and I can not easier. The sensations are almost the same. Both knives managed to grind to a state of paper cuts, but uncertainly.
Ease of wearing Fallkniven F1 and Rat Cutlery RC-3P knives.
And they carried knives like that. The sheath of the knife Rat Cutlery RC-3P is very thought out and allows you to carry the knife as it should and is convenient for the owner, and not as the manufacturer wants. The sheath of the Fallkniven F1 knife is a prime example. For convenience and providing a free suspension, the scabbard had to be supplemented with a small carbine.
I would like to separately focus on editing and sharpening both knives. An analogue of steel U10, American steel 1095 on the Rat Cutlery RC-3P knife was very impressive in terms of ease of editing. Only 10-15 movements on both sides of the cutting edge were enough for a blunt knife to confidently cut thin strips from a piece of paper. With VG-10 steel on a Fallkniven knife
