Circles, emphasis on the last syllable, is a high-elongated floating fishing tackle with which they hunt mainly predatory fish. They are caught in circles only from a boat and only where there is either no current at all, or it is very weak. Mugs are good in that, swimming under the influence of wind or light currents, they themselves are looking for fish, catching a large space.
Home-made mugs for catching predatory fish on live bait, device, manufacturing method, can from a can, catching predatory fish using mugs.
By design mugs — simple tackle, and to make them yourself is very simple. A home-made circle consists of a disk, a stick (pin) inserted into it, and a snap. Disks can be made of polystyrene foam or cork, or can be made of softwood (linden, mountain ash, alder).
If you prefer polystyrene, then the disc mug should be done with a diameter of 120—130 mm and a thickness of 25—30 mm.
If he prefers a tree, then the diameter of the circle should be slightly larger — up to 150 mm. To store the supply of fishing line on the edge of the disk around the circumference, you need to make a selection — triangular groove width and depth 10—12 mm. So that when rotating the mug of fishing line escapes from it, without stopping, the edges of the groove should be rounded and sanded.
To fix the fishing line in working condition (so that it does not randomly reel), two cuts must be made on the upper side of the disc. They are located opposite each other. Each section begins inclined, at 45 degrees, by a depth of 5—7 mm, then counterclockwise disappears. In this case, the edges of the groove are in no way violated.
In the center of the disc you need to drill a through hole with a diameter of 12—15 mm for a stick-pin. If the disc is wooden, the central hole should be larger. Then it is necessary to drive the plug greased with glue into it and already in it after the glue dries, drill a hole for the pin. This is done for one purpose, the springy walls of the cork firmly fix the stick at any height, but do not interfere with its free extraction if it swells from a long stay in water.

The pin, which is inserted into the hole in the disk, is a wooden round stick, at one end of which there is a bulge (head) in the shape of an egg or a ball, and a slot for making a bookmark is made on the top. Stick length 150—180 mm diameter — 10—15 mm The stick is cylindrical two-thirds of its length (so that its position in the disk can be adjusted), the upper third goes to the cone.
Both the disk and the pin should be carefully sanded, puttied and painted. It is customary to paint the upper side of the disk (with cutouts) in red or orange, the lower — in white. The wand is painted in two colors. middle part — white, slotted top — black, head — three quarters white and one — black. A two-color stick is more visible on the water, and a black-and-white head (zebra) when flipping shows from afar whether the circle is spinning or standing motionless.
When assembling the mug, the stick is not always inserted to failure (to the head). The smaller the pin sticks out of the water, the more stable the circle will hold. And this is very important if the bait is a large live bait, which can make a reversal.
Locks on homemade mugs when fishing for predatory fish in a strong current.
In strong currents, it’s almost impossible to catch with free floating circles — they are quickly carried away with water down. To prevent this from happening, rationalization fishers came up with circles «locks». A wooden stick is taken at least 1.5 meters long so that the bait fish does not get entangled in the anchor rope, a rope with a stone anchor is tied to one end of it.
At its other end, a leash 20 cm long with a lead or iron ring is attached. This ring is put on the pin of the cup and thus holds the gear in place. After flipping, the ring falls off the pin and frees the circle from «the castle». Second option for constipation — the ring is put on the pin until it connects to the disk, and rests on the head itself. In this case, the circles remain «at joke» and after flipping.
Home-made mugs for fishing predatory fish made from a can.
Something like a mug can be made if desired from a tin can. By the way, this design has some advantages over the usual circle. Such circles are more stable on the wave; their false overturning due to the wave is completely excluded. Yes, and they are made from improvised waste material.
For this tackle you can use cans of condensed milk, coffee, cocoa. Coffee cans of a similar size are also very convenient for these purposes, only the lid needs to be sealed tightly around the entire perimeter. In both bottoms of the tin, pierce holes with a diameter of 3—3.5 mm so that they are on a line parallel to the longitudinal axis and located at a quarter of the diameter of the side wall.
Drain the contents of the jar, rinse it with hot water and dry it over low heat. Make sure that the seams do not come apart. Through the holes, pass a copper wire of the same diameter, twist on both ends of the ring and carefully solder the wire to the bottoms of the can so that the holes are sealed tightly. After that, paint the jar with oil paints. The part in which the wire is soldered — in red, opposite — in yellow or white.
After the paint has dried, put a rubber ring across the jar across the can (it’s convenient to use the old bicycle camera, cutting off rings with a width of 5—10 mm). Tie a piece of nylon cord with a diameter of 2 to the ears—2.5 mm and a length of 200—250 mm, fold it in half and make a knot so that a loop forms in the center.
The correctness of this operation is simple to check: grab your fingers on the loop on the cord and lift the can above the table — the jar should hang parallel to the surface of the table with the red side up and the white side down. Using a fastener or a winding ring, a standard circle tackle is attached to this eyelet for setting up a circle on live bait with the necessary supply of fishing line. It is enough to take 10 meters of fishing line and wind it across the can.
Catching predatory fish in mugs made from a can.
When setting up the mug, release the required amount of fishing line, fold it in half and place it on the side painted in white under the rubber ring worn on the jar. A weak bait is not able to pull the fishing line out from under the gum, and therefore the circle floats with the red side up.
When the bait is grabbed by a predator, the fishing line is pulled out from under the gum, and the circle freed from the load, rotating, dumps the supply of fishing line and stops upwards with the white side, since its center of gravity, located on the geometric axis, will tend to occupy the lowest position.
