Traditionally, a nod is used mainly on winter gear. However, recently spinning rods have been equipped with nods. This is understandable, a nod is a good bite signaling device, in some cases (on a wave, with a deterioration in visibility) it is even better than a melter. With a wide selection of nods in stores, anglers continue to look for new forms of this small but very important piece of equipment.
Home-made nod for a winter fishing rod, spinning and other fishing tackle, device, production of a nod from bristles and a clock spring.
Creating home-made nods, experienced anglers seek to increase their sensitivity, achieve versatility. Most often, a home-made nod is made of thick fishing line, curled in a spiral, horse hair, wild boar bristles, bird feathers and even springs from an army cap.
The sensitivity of a nod mainly depends on its length. The longer it is, the more sensitive. However, bite is more difficult to control. Still, long and even extra-long nods are preferable. Especially when catching soda or in windy weather. The average length of a nod for summer fishing is usually about 20 cm. In this case, a nod without mormyshka should not bend under its weight. If rods more than 7 meters are used, the length of the nod can be further increased..
With a fishing rod length of 6 meters or more, it is quite problematic to see the nod itself and even more so the bite. Therefore, it is necessary to somehow make the tip of the nod more noticeable. The easiest and most affordable way is to cut a small circle out of dense polystyrene foam or polyethylene foam and use glue to fix it on a nod. For better visibility, you can paint the bite indicator in bright orange.
There is one point worth noting here: despite the lightness of the foam, you should not make very large rounds, as this also increases the sailing nod, which can adversely affect with careful bites or vice versa, create false bites. Typically, the diameter of the detector does not exceed 10 mm with a thickness of not more than 3 mm.
The nod must have good frost resistance and high elasticity. In its manufacture, it is important to consider the bend under the weight of the baubles. As a rule, a nod that is not loaded with a lure, is parallel to the axis of the whip, and when loaded, it bends in a smooth arc. Experienced anglers pre-bend the nod above the steam, in hot water or by pulling through the rolls.
This nod in the loaded state takes the form of an arc with a very small radius of curvature. You can set the nod at an angle to the whip, while both the whip and the nod must be in the same vertical plane, however, you will need a more complex knot mount on the whip.
The simplest home-made nod for a wild boar bristle winter fishing rod.
The simplest nod based on wild boar bristles is done like this. The stratified part of the bristles is tied to a knot, above which a piece of plastic insulation of a radio wire is put on. The bristle is pulled through a nipple tube. On its apex, a ring for passing fishing line is attached with a piece of bright-colored plastic insulation. A narrow ring is put on the upper tip of the nipple, cut off from the same plastic insulation.
The nod is attached to the pole of the fishing rod by a piece of the shell of a two-core electric drive. In one hole there is a six, in another there is an elastic band with a bristle. Usually, the nod in each case is selected according to which mormyshka the fisherman uses. But there are universal models of homemade nods..
Universal homemade nod for fishing rod.
Such a universal home-made nod can be made as follows. It is attached to the whip with a cylindrical sleeve made of school gum. On the opposite side, a conical steel spiral is inserted into this coupling, in the center of which a string or bristle passes. The end of the spiral and string ends with miniature corks through which the line passes. They can also be made of rubber or plastic..
The end plug is painted black or red and has two openings for passing a string or bristle loop. In the initial position, when the string is extended forward, the tackle freely extends to the required depth. After that, it is enough to pull on the shank of the string or bristle, leaving the clutch on the whip, so that the loop closes the end stopper with the fishing line and the nod comes into working position.
The rules for adjusting it are simple. If the mormyshka is light, the string or bristle is used to its full length; if it is heavy, the string or bristle is pulled inward and a conical spiral is used to play the bait.
This combination of a flexible spring and a string (bristle) passed through its center makes the nod very sensitive and easily adjustable. For the manufacture of these parts, a wire with a diameter of 0.15-0.2 mm is selected, in its absence, you can use a spring from the nodding produced by industry.
Another version of the universal home-made nod for fishing rods.
Another variant of universal nodding can be made from two pieces of a clock spring 200 and 180 mm long. The long plate is the main one, while the short one plays the role of a shock absorber. At the base of the nod, on the sleeve, an additional spring shock absorber with a length of not more than 30 mm is also placed. It must be wound from a thin wire with a diameter of 0.2 mm on a metal rod manually or using a drill.
A copper ring is soldered to the end of the main plate for skipping fishing line. For convenience, it is better to make the ring wide – up to 7 mm, so that a mormyshka freely passes into it. Then a piece of 2 mm long (several turns) should be separated from the spring shock absorber with pliers and soldered to the end of the additional spring.
The mounting sleeve for nodding can be made from the insulation of a high voltage wire. Three holes are made in it. One is for attaching fishing rods to the whip, the other is for fishing line, the third is for the shock absorber.
The spring shock absorber should be inserted into the hole intended for it, and through it pass both nodding plates. The ends of both plates (5 mm each) need to be doubled and soldered, leaving a drop of solder on them for convenient grip of the plates with your fingers when changing the length of the working part of the nod.
A simple nod of a leaf spring for a winter fishing rod or spinning.
The simplest nod from the clock spring may look as follows. A ring is soldered at the end of the nodding plate — it may be a washer with an internal diameter of 5-8 mm, through which the fishing line is passed. The other end of the plate is rigidly mounted on the whip.
A wire ring is mounted at the end of the whip. The elasticity of the nod is adjusted by moving the rubber roller with a wire clip along the whip. With a sharp bite, the nod ring hits the whip ring, the fish self-bites.
Universal nod-guard for winter fishing, device and manufacture.
The universal nod-guard for winter fishing, which would be equally good for different in weight and size, can be assembled from several ready-made nods available in your arsenal, with some simple additions.
The essence of such a universal nod is that one gatehouse is the most sensitive (lower), the others only add rigidity to it. The characteristics of a particular gatehouse depend on the stiffness of the lower, middle and upper plates. By changing the length of each plate, you can achieve any sensitivity, and the visibility of the bite is much higher.
Imagine how the colored balls will play, which are attached to the tips of each of the gatehouse components in such a triple nod when biting. Naturally, for such a gatehouse you need a corresponding fishing rod with two reels for fishing line. Say, one – with a fishing line of 0.15-0.17 mm for fishing on light baits, the other – 0.25 – 0.27 mm for fishing on heavier ones. Such a fishing rod, only changing bait and fishing line, you can catch almost any fish in the winter.
