Modern army knives can be divided into two groups – knives of the universal type ishtyk-knives. Army knives as a separate element of equipment exist in the arsenal of far from all states. Most armies are content with bayonet knives.
Modern army and combat knives, purpose and original designs of modern combat knives.
Ideally, an army knife should be a harmonious combination of quality and price, as it is the subject of mass production. In practice, the quality of manufacture of army knives, as a rule, leaves much to be desired..
By the term “combat knife” in this case we mean a short-bladed weapon intended primarily for combat. The main consumer of such knives, using them for their intended purpose, are various special forces – sabotage and reconnaissance units. Most of the produced combat knives, as a rule, replenish the private collections of knives of edged weapons.
Combat knives are included in the mandatory equipment kit of a fighter of sabotage and reconnaissance units around the world. As well as army knives, the combat knife of a special forces soldier is also adapted for household work. The difference is that knives for special forces are primarily designed to defeat the enemy.
In different models, the balance of economic and military components is made in different ways, but first of all, such knives are designed for combat. Another important difference is the much higher level of manufacture of the knife. Often, such knives are made manually by gunsmiths, in small batches. Of course, such a knife is much more expensive than standard army knives.
However, unlike the bulk of the military, special forces in all countries of the world are arming and equipping in a much more thorough manner. Often, fighters have the right to choose their own weapons, including cold.
An example of a short-bladed weapon designed specifically for hand-to-hand combat is the combat knife developed during the Vietnam War for US special forces reconnaissance groups. A knife of this type was produced in limited quantities and distributed among scouts performing combat missions on enemy territory.
Original designs of modern combat knives.
Recently, Japanese motifs have become increasingly popular among manufacturers of combat knives. The blade in the Japanese tanto style has an effective penetration ability, is equally well suited for both stabbing and cutting attacks, and as a result, it is found more often among combat knives.
The original design distinguishes combat knives with a ring for the index finger. The ring is designed to improve control over the knife and facilitate the removal of the blade from the body of the enemy. For the same purposes, in some models of combat knives, an additional crossbar is used – a guard located between the index and middle fingers.
