Canadian graphic designer Gareth Fowler decided once and for all to explain the principle of operation of certain types of weapons and created very interesting animated illustrations. On them, he displayed the work of weapons with different mechanisms, which usually remains hidden from us.
The mechanism with side locking the barrel. So far, no one has been able to translate this idea into reality.
Good old “Minigun” Gatling system.
Webley Forsbery. This gun is based on the idea of an automatic revolver Webley-Fosbery, in which the recharge was made thanks to the force of recoil.
A rifle fed from a rotor ammunition pack. The idea was borrowed from rifles of the late XIX – early XX centuries.
Recoil barrel with its long course. The idea is based on several models. One of the most successful was the Browning Auto 5 rifle, which has been produced for about 100 years.
Disk store. Before us is the modern Lewis machine gun.
The Hotchkiss revolving system. Based on the Hochtkissa turret gun, which accompanied the American cavalry during the Spanish-American War and in related military conflicts.
Machine gun system Gardner. The principle of operation of this double-barreled machine gun is based on a mechanical trigger mechanism, which is driven by the rotation of the handle.
Semi-free shutter with lever slowing. Approximately the way the automatic system of the French automatic machine FAMAS works.
Cam mechanism. Automatic gun of revolving type with gas exhaust system.
