Scales, measurements, dispenser, spins and calibration rings for independent equipment of hunting cartridges.

Scales with weights are a necessary tool for self-equipment of hunting cartridges. They are needed for weighing charges of gunpowder, shells of shot and buckshot, checking the mass of bullets and wad.

Cup scales are sold at various stores. The kit includes: an earring suspension bracket on which the rocker arm with the arrow is movably mounted, two cups (usually plastic) attached to the ends of the rocker arm, a set of weights from 0.01 g to 20 g, a rod for hanging the earring, which is fixed in the box socket with weights, and tweezers. On such scales, shells weighing up to 40 g can be weighed.

Scales have one significant inconvenience: the shape of the cups does not allow you to confidently pour powder or shot from them into the sleeve. Therefore, you have to use improvised means, for example, a piece of paper placed in a cup when weighing gunpowder, funnel, etc. It is best to replace one of the cups with an equal mass, but having a nose through which it is convenient to pour out both gunpowder and shot.

Before operation, the balance must be checked. Empty cups should be balanced. In the event that the balance is not balanced, the free end of the thread of the cup that outweighs is cut off until equilibrium is reached. In some cases, strips of paper can be used to balance.

Measures for gunpowder and shot for independent equipment of hunting cartridges.

It is inconvenient to use scales for weighing gunpowder and fragments when equipping large batches of cartridges, therefore, in such cases, measures are used for gunpowder and shot. A measure usually consists of:

A metal hollow cylinder without a bottom (body), with or without a figured window.
A movable cylinder with a bottom, on which there is a knurled edge for installing measurements on a specific weight volume.
A metal or wooden handle mounted on the upper part of the body (a long handle is more convenient than a short one).
Latch to set the required volume.

By modern standards, there is a scale showing the mass of gunpowder or fraction corresponding to a given volume in grams. On some old standards, the division scale for gunpowder is indicated in drams (1 drachma = 1.77 g), and for fractions in ounces (1 ounce = 28.35 g). Each measurement must be preliminarily checked on the scales for each type of powder and for different numbers of fractions..

Checking the volume of the measure, marked by division on the scale, is carried out for gunpowder with an accuracy of 0.02-0.05 g, and for a fraction – with an accuracy of up to the weight of one grain of the number for which the volume of measure is weighed.

Dispenser for gunpowder and shot for self-equipment of hunting cartridges.

To more accurately measure the powder and fraction, which does not require a large investment of time, use a dispenser. The dispenser consists of a housing, inside which a measuring tube with a piston is inserted. The housing has a groove running in a spiral along which the measuring tube moves, and two holes. One for pouring gunpowder into the measuring tube, the other for pouring from the measuring tube into the sleeve.

A hopper is fixed in the first hole, into which gunpowder is poured. The volume of gunpowder in the measuring tube is regulated by the position of the piston. A divider is inserted into the hopper so that the powder pressure is more or less uniform. The whole structure is attached to the table with a clamping screw. The dispenser allows you to measure the charges of gunpowder with an accuracy of 0.05 g. First, of course, you should determine and set the desired volume of the measuring tube, and during the work periodically check the accuracy of the dispenser using weights.

Spin and special press for self-equipment of hunting cartridges.

When equipping cartridges in folder and plastic sleeves, twists are used. They serve to fix the shotgun or bullet by rolling the free edge of the barrel of the barrel. Spins are manual or desktop. Table twists are more convenient and productive. Rolling the free edge of the dulce with their use is usually cleaner.

paper or plastic sleeves use a special press that presses the sleeve with an asterisk. This operation can also be performed using the UPS device. The performance of the press is lower than that of the table twist, in addition, after pressing the liner, it is often necessary to additionally pass it through the spin. Spin quality is important for shot performance.

To calibrate the sleeves, special calibration rings are used, which have a different structure for working with metal and paper sleeves. Calibration of metal sleeves is carried out before the equipment of cartridges, paper and plastic – after twisting or pressing.
