Various types of bullets can be purchased in hunting stores, but the choice and quality of their manufacture do not always meet the requirements of hunters, and some bullets that are excellent in their characteristics are not manufactured by industry. In this regard, some hunters make bullets on their own.

The round bullet is the easiest to manufacture, and in remote areas of Siberia and the Far East, hunters often pour or roll round bullets on their own. The manufacture of bullets of other designs is much more complicated and requires skills in working with drawings and the ability to use various machines, because bullets and some bullets are turned on a lathe.

The filling funnel forms the bullet head, and the bottom of the body forms the internal cavity in the shank of the bullet to insert a polyethylene rod into it. When pouring lead into a mold and cooling it, a clamp is used for convenience. Puleleki details are made of steel. For the manufacture of bullets, it is necessary to melt the lead to a temperature at which the paper, when touched, is charred, but does not ignite.

Then, a preheated device clamped in a clamp is filled with lead through a funnel. After that, the device together with the clamp is cooled in water, loosen the clamp screw, take out the funnel and, disconnect the body into two halves, take out the bullet with the bottom.

Grasping the bullet lightly in a vice with rubber gaskets near the lips, remove the bottom with pliers and fill the cavity in the shank with molten polyethylene. It remains only to strip the burrs. The material for the manufacture of such a bullet is solid fraction.

With the help of similar devices – a bullet can make any lead bullet, although the manufacture of forms for some bullets is very difficult. For example, for bullets Mayer or bullets BS. The manufacture of bullets from hard metals and alloys (Blondo, Rubeykina) differs in that they are not cast, but are turned on a lathe.

Making a polyethylene container for bullets.

After making the bullet itself, it is necessary to make a container for it. For this, a special device has also been developed, consisting of a brass casing-holder and a steel core, which in working condition are connected by a steel pin. A container is made as follows: two tapes of a plastic film are wound on a core surface lubricated with petroleum jelly or paraffin.

One of them, narrower, is wound around the conical recess of the core until it is full, then a second, wider tape is wound over it so that the clip, also lubricated from the inside, fits tightly on the core. The holder with the core is heated over the flame of the burner, and then the cardboard wad is inserted into the holder, with which the molten polyethylene is pressed with the help of a navigator.

After that, the entire structure is cooled in water. After the clip has been removed, the envelope, along with the wad adhering to the polyethylene shirt, is cut off, and the finished container is cut into the desired number of parts and removed from the core. The polyethylene of which the container is made must be sufficiently solid.

Making Blondo’s Hunting Bullets.

The most time-consuming production of Blondo bullets, because they combine a steel case and lead lead belts, however, they can also be made independently, according to the method proposed by V. Khlebnikov. The bullet body is machined on the machine with strict adherence to the alignment of the head and tail. Grooves are cut with a cutting tool and specially tipped tools (left and right).

Three holes with a diameter of 1.2-1.5 mm are drilled in the grooves. For pouring lead into the grooves, a steel cup is made. A bullet casing heated to 70-80 degrees is vertically placed in it, after which the cup is filled to the brim with molten lead. In this case, the holes in the grooves are also filled with lead, which subsequently during turning prevents it from turning.

After the lead has cooled, the bullet is reinserted into the machine and the belts are grinded to a size 0.2 mm smaller than the diameter of the channel. On the belts a direct gear knurling is done with a pitch of 0.7-1 mm. In the process of rolling, the diameter of the lead bands increases and reaches a value equal to the diameter of the bore.

The remaining indentations from the centering can be filled with paraffin or molded with plasticine. Other bullets are made of hard metals in a similar way, but, as a rule, their manufacture is simpler, since they require only turning operations.
