Shooting in the training of security forces

Very often you hear the comments:

“Practical shooting is evil when training security forces!”

Thanks for this wonderful article from Simon Rakazy, who speaks on this topic.

Looking ahead, I will say – doing practical shooting, This is a sport for all law enforcement officers. However, everything is in order.

What are the training courses? A small set of well-established exercises, formed in the last century. For example, shooting shots and test shots PM-1 from a distance of 25 meters in 3 minutes And more recently, it’s not.

And now please answer the questions:

  • What skills does a security officer impart to this exercise?
  • High-speed shooting under stress?
  • Do you have to go on it?
  • Shooting and handling weapons at various distances, including short and ultra-short?
  • It is not a problem.

If all your answers – “NO!” – move on.

These competitions are also called fights of a combat weapon. However, if you’re a shooter?

The following category of opponents states:

Practice shootingIt’s not a rule of thumb, but I’m not really a sport of peace,

My question is – What does combat shooting mean? – the opponent usually goes off-line, ignores the individual. For example, it’s not a problem. one of them is incapacitated. Experts are taken into account.

Well, these are quite understandable professional heatsay, and even from third parties.

That’s how i feel about practical shooting from my subjective point of view

1. Security

Described in this case? This is a few A4 pages. In practical shooting, there are only four safety requirements.

  1. If they were loaded.
  2. I want to shoot.
  3. Before you shoot,
  4. It will never reach the target.

The requirements are rather short for departmental writings (naturally, I understand the bureaucratic peculiarity of “safety net”).

Look at writing departmental options fixed rules on any action. In this case, permission for anything gives the head of the shooting or his assistant.

AT practical shooting The gunner is responsible for handling the weapon. There is a the “I”. It is much better disciplined than the abstract “head of shooting”.

Again, I’m not sure that you’ve been able to train, or to simulators, with weapons. But not all courses have a separate item for training, and indeed such a concept. And even if it is a few pages of prohibitions.

If you are on the street? How does this affect professional training. And it is in the security forces. Of course, I’m exaggerating, but …

In the case of the writers, there are several phrases.

And now the question to the experts:

How many cases of unskilled handling were reported in accidents practical shooting, and how much in various departments?

AT practical shooting The shooter is disqualified from the competition. He has been a lifelong lesson. Again, look at the shots from the sport shooting!

2. Balance of speed and accuracy

Let’s return to department competitions. Accounting is only the number of “knocked out” points. But for all shooters is the same? The leapfrog begins with the calculations “10-9-8”, etc. What does this have to do with reality? “The 10” on the chest? Why teach what it is not in life.

What does the analyst say:

The winner is the one who is his opponent. Thus, besides accuracy, another winning factor in life is time.

How is basic scoring in practical shooting? The number of points scored is divided by the time for shooting, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT ALL DRAWINGS.

In my mind, this is the ideal formula that best meets the realities. fire contact. This method makes me act quickly, but carefully. What kind of sport, in addition to the accuracy and speed. And the shooting time is not limited. If you want it?

What is the difference between getting into “10” and “9” in terms of wound ballistics?

AT practical shooting on targets there are three affected areas. If you look at the “metric” The distance between 5-7 meters and “Under 10-9-8, black circle”.

3. A variety of shooting positions and target locations.

Worth saying that on practical shooting competition Exercise NEVER REPEATED. That is, you see, “3 trial, 10 credit”. The pathway “serve and protect.”

I come to it. But I know for sure. I know for sure that I will move, carry fire. I will be fined at shots (for which I will be fined). I will definitely be seen at targets.

To achieve the best time I will have to shoot some targets in motion. It will be forced to get in it.

It’s not a “making-shot-telescope-making” scheme. Is it a way to reality?

4. Manipulations with weapons and equipment

AT practical shooting I shoot with the same holster that I use in life. This is not a regular holster. PM (which I call the employee’s coffin, for which I have a separate topic),

I have a different approach to my own life.

My equipment is slightly different from the standard in practical shooting, and does not have some advantages. It’s not a problem.

Again, there is a wild panic amongst the “competent” employees. Well, okay, as I wrote – this is a topic for a separate story.

A short competition exercise use it. So again, I know for sure that on any shooting exercise I have to change the store.

Shooting courses? Implied that 8 rounds in PM enough to neutralize one or more opponents. Well, well, “Blessed is the one who believes …”

Look at the ammunition consumption statistics for fire contact, or even better, imagine yourself in a “life or death” situation. How many shots will you count them? It is a fact that you can even recharge, even if you need it.

Another major weapon handling – this is the elimination of delays. Say how many delays I had on my PM? Much more than necessary …

What does an employee do? That’s right, and eliminate the delay. In terms of security, this is justified. It is also justified for middle school students or kindergarten pupils. But not for an employee.

The competition is in the area of competition.

This may not be so relevant. More important are the primary skills: grip, aiming, handling the trigger. But they are important.

Summing up

I want to take courses with practical shooting.

AT practical shooting, If you’re looking for it, there are also a lot of shortcomings for real implementation. Shooting courses are good. It all depends on the perception and the tasks.

Yes, practical shooting – This is a sport of military weapons. But it all depends on how you look at it.

I am ready to hear the opposite arguments. Approach to training in general.

I see the approach to training. “Everything depends on the ground”, “striking to“ soberly ”, look at alternatives, consider themselves“ competent experts ”. From people who are not afraid of responsibility.

P.S. I consciously avoid the contrast between “practical shooting” (IPSC) and “defense shooting” (IDPA). For me, these two sides of the chain. But there, and there, with a skeptical approach, I can find flaws.

Practice shooting – This is a dynamic kind of defense shooting. Or vice versa, defense shooting – This is a “tactical” type of practical shooting. I hope the “experts” are familiar with such concepts as “sequential …” and “dynamic assault”?

P.S. Everything I said is my personal opinion. In my judgments, I tried to learn. Writing is not my strength. If someone is offended, I apologize.
