Emerging from nothing, as if a flying fist in itself and … darkness. For many, with this brief moment, the battle began to end immediately. At best, non-existence is temporary, at worst – eternal. Without any formalities, like racks and prefabricated, the team of the judge about the beginning of the bout. It is possible that someone managed at the last moment to notice one or several guys emerging from the darkness, the brilliance of a knife in the hand of the nearest one.
The reason is simple: the man was taken by surprise, he was not ready for battle, because once and for all he did not define for himself the concept of personal security.
It is possible that someone would argue: they say, they just do not attack anyone. Yes, and refer to the classics, for example, Mikhail Bulgakov, remember? “A brick for no reason … nobody will ever fall on its head.”
Alas, the will of providence sometimes fades in front of brute physical force, which courage or profit will be decided by those who not only did not read Bulgakov, but did not even hear about it. Beat, and how! And just to make fun. And for the fleeting glance thrown at the girl, and for a loud word, and for an uncertain walk, and even for glasses and a hat. These reasons are more than enough to step over the invisible line separating a person from a criminal.

In order not to become an uncomplaining lamb, dutifully wandering to the slaughter, and to respond adequately and promptly to any aggression, it is necessary to thoroughly analyze their behavioral attitudes and personal psychological dominants that determine attitudes towards their health and life itself. And here is the very goal that justifies the means – the rebirth prey in predator, for the sacrifice of the victim is protection, and even then not for long, with very poor chances of victory. It is unlikely that such a development can be considered acceptable.
Predator on the contrary, it always attacks, actively fighting, sparing no effort, backed by confidence in their sufficiency for ultimate success. He does not fall into a stupor in an extreme situation, but acts extremely hard, demonstrating a great desire to survive. Especially since his behavior fits into the framework of article 37 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which defines the legal nuances necessary self defense.
It says, in particular, that it is not a crime to cause harm to an attacker with the necessary self-defense, that is, to protect the person, and the rights of both his own and other people, if this encroachment is associated with violence, life-threatening or even threat the use of such violence.
These actions are legitimate if limits of self defense not exceeded, that is, they are adequate to the nature and danger of encroachment. However, adequacy is a loose concept, therefore the law permits a certain bias in assessing the risk that has arisen in favor of the defender and gives the right to the necessary defense of all citizens without exception, even if “it is possible to avoid socially dangerous encroachment or seek other help persons or authorities. “
This legal rule not only justifies self-defense, but also reminds one more time: it is necessary to analyze, summarize and systematize the whole order of its possible actions in critical situation, of course, taking into account the knowledge, skills and abilities available in the arsenal, having built them into the concept of personal safety.
Ideally, this concept includes two sections:
- The first – theoretical training, that is, knowledge of potentially dangerous places on the route “home-work” and back, a clear assessment of their capabilities and information about the street situation in the city, especially in their area.
- Second – practical training: working out methods of self-defense in various conditions, reflecting the characteristics of the dynamics of a person’s personal life (in the subway, bus or car, against a lone person or a group of attackers), as well as constant physical and psychological training.
Conditionally, personal security can be divided into two phases, the first of which consists of actions prior to the attack, the second – the behavior algorithm itself during the fight. And each of them, of course, has its own specific features.
A head to the development of a contingency situation – her sound assessment, so that, barely catching the slightest nuances of the growing confrontation, it was possible to have time to choose the necessary measure of counteraction. Only an absolutely confident person is able to do this.
The last circumstance is already half the success, for the criminals try to avoid conflicts with similar people, distinguishing them by behavior, calm step, direct view. They are much more satisfied with the dullly bowed shoulders of the passer-by, the mincing steps, wandering or downcast gaze and incoherent mumbling when answering a direct question.
The recipe is surprisingly simple: to live safely, you must always think about your safety, and first intentionally, and later, when it becomes a habit, unconsciously analyze everything external and internal factors: weather, clothes of opponents, aggression in a voice and many other things. From their innumerable multitude, it seems, it is advisable to single out the main ones.
1. The situation factor
The number and range of furniture in the room, the curb on the road, the height of the railing and the “steepness” of the steps on the stairs …
Of course, the likelihood and attacks in broad daylight on a busy street are not excluded, but where it happens more often “away from the noise of the city”, in thickened twilight or late at night, on a deserted street, in a park or on a wasteland. And the first thing to start with is an analysis of possibilities for maneuver, if, of course, there are any.
And therefore, under any circumstances, do not drive yourself into a dead end: to the entrance without a black exit, the “pocket” of the garage zone or the market, the corner of a cafe or any other similar place.
Here every detail is important: even the presence of irregularities on the surface, it is desirable to permanently fix with lateral vision at the subconscious level, because your stability and loss of balance by the enemy depend on these bumps and hollows. The ability to use the results of his observation in a timely manner gave many a victory and saved his health and life.
2. Distance factor
Perhaps this is not the most human-loving advice, but you are accustomed to consider any stranger approaching you or a company as potential intruders, regardless of gender, age, external data and physical condition. And always keep a “buffer zone” equal to the length of your outstretched hand with your fingers between you and the unknown.
Suppose a man suddenly ran out from around the corner and rushed straight at you. Your actions? To make it easier to find the answer, there are a couple of options for consequences: you are knocked down and you ram the asphalt with your head or you are beaten on the fly (in the face, your dear – anywhere), snatch a bag, phone, hat and look for wind in the field. And therefore all that is required of you at this instant is to take a step to the side to reach the arm’s length in order to secure the saving fractions of a second for a counterattack in case of a sudden attack.
By letting anyone closer to you at this distance, you automatically allow them to quickly and effectively attack you, for an attack is always faster than defense. And this is not difficult to verify. Ask a comrade from the position with his hands down to strike you several times with the flat fingers of his hand in the forehead, and try to defend yourself from the same position. If you manage to do this in more than 3 cases out of 10, you have the makings of a true hand-to-hand master!
3. Hand position factor
See how a potential opponent holds hands? If in your pockets, behind your back or got into your bag or in your bosom – an alarm should sound in your head. If he clenches his fists, twists his fingers, barely noticeably stretches his limbs – this also does not bode you any good. Your outer calm should be supported by complete inner composure.
4. Clothing factor
One clothes allows you to hide weapons, the other not. In addition, the stranger’s long coat limits footwork and shackles amplitude punches; cap and high collar in the fight will be a hindrance that complicates the review; shoes like “grinders” or some kind of “military” – makes it harder to kick, and it is better not to experience to what extent.
5. The facial expression and expression factor
A heavy, oppressive, gaze – frowning, squinting, from above or with a squint – eloquently testifies to the internal state of a person. And obviously unfriendly state. Running eyes, “blurring” focusing – also do not speak about a benign mood: this type is unpredictable and impulsive, and therefore it should not be relied upon for its loyalty.
Before striking a person, as a rule, unwittingly looks at the place that he intends to attack. That is why the criminals with experience immediately after that look away to the side, look around – are there any witnesses – and immediately attack.
Red, bloodshot eyes, abnormally dilated or constricted pupils, too slow or, on the contrary, accelerated speech – signs of alcohol or drug intoxication. Compressed jaws, lips, playing nodules, swollen nostrils, “filtering the bazaar” through teeth, pulsating vessels in the temples or neck mean poorly concealed aggression, as well as re-spitting in the direction of the interlocutor.
6. Posture Factor
Fully straightened and folded legs make it harder for an attacker to jerk or hit. Evaluate whether all the limbs are in your field of vision and how the center of gravity is distributed: the rear leg of your leg implies an unexpected other blow or a rapid leap forward. Heeled and divorced legs, a slightly selected body and a pursed chin, clenched into fists or, on the contrary, opened to grip the hand brighter than red and louder than the siren will give a signal to the prepared person “Alarm alert!”
7. Time factor
If the conflict unfolds gradually, for example, after a verbal squabble, it means that there is time to prepare, but if this is an unexpected attack from around the corner or from the doors of the entrance, it is impossible to delay. It is better to always be psychologically prepared for the second option: better safe than sorry.
8. The factor of climatic and temporal changes.
The time of day – morning, day or night – leaves its mark on the choice of the algorithm of actions. In the daytime, when the situation is complicated, it is not shameful to retire to where there are more people, at night, you will most likely have to rely on your own strength. Rain, snow, wind, or intense heat dull attention, make it difficult to notice the threat, and eliminate a number of protective actions, thereby complicating self-defense.
It is not enough to notice the danger, you need to quickly and adequately respond to it. Acceptable option: group, bend the joints of the limbs, gather psychologically, put one leg back and sideways, transferring to it most of the weight of the body. It is useful to “scratch” an eyebrow or a temple, to support this elbow with the wrist of the other.
It is forbidden to keep your hands in your pockets, in your belt, to cross over your chest – for any biceps and triceps it is very difficult to make a protective movement from this position. And – the constant control of the hands and feet of the opponent, as well as the flank maneuvers of his “colleagues”. A sharp movement in your direction (because the knife is not always visible in the dynamics) and – a stopping strike to the knee with the foot at the same time as spontaneous defense with two hands.
Suppose you return home in the evening and suddenly notice that several young people are heading in your direction. Assessing their clothes, facial expressions, looking at the street in search of shelter or improvised weapons, having estimated possible schemes of actions, you must, while maintaining a safe distance, take the situation under complete control. What does it mean?
If you are stopped, you need to choose a position that complicates a simultaneous attack from all sides, while maintaining the chance of escape through escape. Have you been asked for money or cigarettes? It’s time to “turn on” the concept of personal security.
If you feel that by giving them what you are looking for, you will be able to defuse the situation – do it. Parting with a pack of cigarettes or two or three bills is not a big loss. But if your intuition tells you that this is just an excuse for forging a “closer relationship”, not to mention a possible suggestion to go somewhere or drive, the preparation for the battle ends there. The fight begins.
By the way, about the fight as a second and final phase of personal security. The foreignness of the idea of resistance during an attack stems from many causes, but the main one is the absence of a clearly defined and conscious defense motive.
In other words, we most often do not consider a stranger as an adversary, initially endowing him with certain virtues and not wanting to offend him with words or actions. This is undoubtedly humane, but as a result we often become victims of our own naivety. An example of this is darkness. An unfamiliar guy decided to help the girl returning from the store, carried the bags, and at the same time robbed the apartment and raped the owner … And all because she decided not to offend with the refusal of such a kind and sympathetic young man, and implicitly opposing her own carelessness, she opened her door apartments.
Of course, this is not a system, but, counting on the best, prepare for the worst: this is how our world works. Unfair and tough, alas. Do not be afraid to be tactless, saying to a stranger (or a stranger – and such is not uncommon) “no!”. Categorically and irrevocably, because public opinion about the triumphant upbringing and decency of the population does not hold water. It is this delusion and is fraught with serious consequences. Only the neutralization of the obsessive and persistent “first comer” will allow you to continue the path called life.
So, the enemy has found himself – it’s time to defend. How to do it most effectively? It is necessary to recognize that the choice of the optimal variant of counteraction, it happens, baffles even fighters who have an enviable experience of sparring, not to mention ordinary people who are not familiar with the science of combat. Unfortunately, it is impossible to choose an adequate method of violence without a conscious and unquestionable attitude towards survival and, of course, knowledge – when and how best to start a fight. Natural questions: so when and how?
Fighting, not thinking about the possibility of death for the attacking side, follows, focusing on the following “nuances”: the place of the fight (if you are cornered – in any sense of the word – and there is no way to wait); the number and physical data of the attackers; weaponry: the enemy – a club or a knife, it does not matter; and finally on intuition. If the instinct tells you that the enemy is armed and deadly, neutralize him to the maximum, without showing scruples in the media.
On the other hand, you should not try to erase the attacker from the face of the earth, if you are, firstly, sure that he does not want to cause you maximum harm, there are no his accomplices around the corner, he is not armed and in general – in any case outwardly – it looks weaker than you. Secondly, if it happens in broad daylight, in a crowded place, you are not alone, and there is something at hand from improvised means.
After choosing the method of counteraction, it still takes a fraction of a second to determine the strategy of the fight, the type of actions, the use of one or another psychological state, however, only experienced fighters can evaluate the latter.
However, there is a certain set of exercises, affordable and healthy for everyone (literally).
- Practicing safety distance. Held in a group. The performer, being in a relaxed state, beats off or grabs any attacking limb that crosses the distance of an outstretched arm. Then the conditions are complicated: all the elements are executed when walking, with the rapid attack of opponents, with the attack with knives (knife simulator).
- Assessment of the situation. The partner chooses the position of the body and decides whether to attack or not. The task of the contractor is to get ahead of the attack by determining external or internal factors and then repel the attacks in a random order. The next stage: the partner hides the weapon and snatches it, trying to use it. And then everything is worked out in motion.
- Choice of counteraction. Situations and reactions to the questions “What time it is”, “You will not find …”, “Hey, man!”, Push and grab. Multivariate, with different intonation in the voice and with different body positions. In the future, three schemes of action are worked out: repel the blow and run away, submit and escape and quickly neutralize. After fixing the skill of choosing a reaction, a cold and then a firearm are included in the training.
- Preventive attack. If there is an internal or external factor after assessing the situation and identifying the threat of attack, a preventive strike is worked out: it is necessary to neutralize the enemy first. First, the training is held face-to-face, and then on the shells with emotional color. In conclusion, the defense against an unexpected attack of the enemy according to the scheme is completed: attack – counterattack – finishing off the attacker.
Perhaps not everyone will immediately understand the meaning of an exercise. In a global sense – to save your life, hit the enemy or prevent an attack.
By the way, four quite available ways to prevent an attack have proven themselves: to blind him with a blow to the eyes; knock the breath a blow to the stomach or chest, shock shock pain; immobilize injured legs. After all, this is axiomatic: on the street, only those who are serious about their own safety will help themselves.
Any action gives rise to opposition. And the first step to this is an awareness of the importance of ensuring one’s own security. Day and night, in any situation, you need to think and act like a person who wants to survive!
